Fallout 3 may seem like an FPS based on the cover, but from the hours I’ve been playing it, it’s more RPG. The game is made by Bethesda, the same guys who make Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. While I found Oblivion to have a cliche’d boring story, Fallout 3 got my attention right away from the opening scene. Fallout’s story is set in an apocalyptic world where the last known men are living deep underground. This may seem cliche’d but I like the mystery that’s involved in the game. You have the Seeker, the ruler of the underground, acting suspicious all the time(reminds me of Father from Equilibrium). You wonder why no one has ever left the underground (could it be like The Island?).
Besides the story being interesting, the gameplay is also pretty good. It combines RPG and FPS. You talk to characters and decide how you interact with them: be a jerk, nice guy, ignore pleas for help, etc. Choosing your actions come into play as you have many attributes including karma, lock picking, shooting etc. I was truely sad when I was being a jerk to a girl and I lost karma points. Later on, I tried being nice to her and she still remembered my actions and still didn’t want to be my friend. That made me sad again.
The FPS aspect isn’t as great as the RPG. The character moves too fast and I have a hard time aiming at my targets. Maybe there’s an option for the control sensitivity. So far I only have a bb and hand guns. Detection is pretty good and the AI is okay. They’ll run straight at you and then run back. I’m sure it’ll get more exciting when I get the big ass weapons.
Graphic wise, it’s okay. The characters still don’t move like humans but it has improved from Oblivion. The environments has good lighting and it doesn’t feel like a cardboard cutout. Audio is also okay. Nothing too impressive.
I’m still going to play this game over the weekend and see if the story holds up. For now it seems like this game is worth a keeper because of the character buildup and interesting story.

I hear many good things about this game. Can’t wait to play it. Between this, Little Big Planet, and Fable 2, I never want to go outside! =P
