As if many people don’t hate them enough, EA has announced upcoming changes for sports titles online play. Starting with Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11, EA will be including an “Online Pass” with new copies of the game. This pass is a one-time registration code that allows you to play your newly bought EA Sports title online. Now this raises the question “What if I bought the game used? How would I play online?” Do not trouble yourself with these innate questions as EA has provided a solution. If one were to buy an EA Sports Title used, you’re offered with a free 7-day trial which would allow you to play online. After the trial is up, you have the option of purchasing, yes purchasing, a registration code for $10. Also note that online content is marketed as a feature of these games, not an additional service to be bought. So, you can buy a game for $60 dollars to access a game’s online content for “free”, or you can buy it used and pay an additional $10 to access features that have already been payed for by the original purchaser. Gee, thanks EA, you’re the greatest.

EA, you disappoint me. It’s like me buying a used blowup doll and I have to pay extra to do you know what.

my easy solution will be to just not buy anymore EA games. When a company is obviously driving my greed/paranoia and no longer customer driven, thats when people stop buying games from that company.
Over the years Ive seen EA get more paranoid against gamers, and get greedy. At the same time they release mostly par, or sub-par games(in my opinion).
If they really go thru with this it will probably end up temporary, because when they see a drop in there game sales, or when they see nobody is playing online, they will realize there mistake.

It seems that these companies are looking to lose a lot of money. I figure if no one buys anything from them or a few buy from them they’ll go under OR charge less and put out a better product.
Hey, if the CEO isn’t having caviar every night and driving a Bentley, then what’s the reason for him to wake up every day.
SSX is made by EA Sports, great games, but with a company like that, who would buy anything from them…

Nice, I was searching for something along the lines of this. I was wondering, do you think newsletters are still an good way of marketing online? Does anybody still use them successfully and actually acquire readers?
Cheers!
