E3 2009: The Games I’m Stoked About

Well, Microsoft and Sony’s press conference is over, and there are a lot of things to talk about. I have to admit that Sony has wowed me with their exclusive titles like The Last Guardian, Uncharted 2, and Heavy Rain. God of War 3 not so much, but I am looking forward to it.

The Last Guardian

Shadow of the Colossus was a beautiful adventure game that proved that video games can be art. Team Ico has done it again with their debut trailer for The Last Guardian (reminds me of Lassie). It has the same fantasy-like environment like Shadow of the Colossus mixed in with The Neverending Story. In Shadow of the Colossus, your ride was your horse. In The Last Guardian, you get to ride a gigantic creature with a head of a dog and chicken feet. Game of the Year contender for sure. If not, I’m going to have to climb and go stab someone in their weak spot.

Uncharted 2

The first Uncharted is an excellent example of an Indiana Jones game done right (sorry Tomb Raider). Naughty Dog shows E3 their gameplay demo with intense helicopter battles, environments that moves you (literally), and the same fun gameplay as the first. Another sure-fire winner.

Heavy Rain
When Quantic Dream unveiled their first E3 reel, a really emotional scene with an actress trying for a part, the buzz was over-the-top with how good the graphics and presentation was. They have released some more in-game scenes and it looks like a different game now with the graphics that looks less-than-stellar compared to the first E3 footage. I’m still looking forward to Heavy Rain since I loved Indigo Prophecy, only this time no more crazy Mayan Mumbo Jumbo.

It’s good to be multi-platform when you got games like Assassin’s Creed 2 and Xbox 360 exclusives with games like Splinter Cell: Conviction. I miss Sam Fisher’s hobo-emo hair, but the element of Bourne Identity-style gameplay is bound to keep you on your feet.

Assassin’s Creed 2

The first game was well received in terms of graphics, gameplay, and presentation. The biggest issue with Assassin’s Creed was that it was too repetitive. I, myself, enjoyed the game and didn’t mind the same ol’ missions, since I love to eavesdrop and pickpocket, lol. Ubisoft has listened to the fans and has added a lot more mission types and other new features like the ability to use the enemy’s weapons against them, stealth kill two people at once, hang gliding, swimming, and more. The greatest thing about the game? It comes out November of this year! Can’t wait to see what Kristen Bell is up to.

Other titles worth checking out: Final Fantasy XIV Online, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Modern Warfare 2 and Gran Turismo 5
