Undisputed 3 is an action treat for fans of hardcore, bloody fighting flicks. It blows away the big budget Hollywood fighting flicks and everything else in its path of awesomeness. The movie is easily the best Undisputed of the series (though the second one was also very good), and features some of the best fights I’ve seen in a long time. The story also serves the action and holds your interest throughout. This is one awesome flick. It’s so macho that you’ll have to shower off the smell of brutality and old spice after 96 minutes or so of Undisputed action.
The movie stars Scott Adkins as a Russian of few words named Boyka. Boyka was injured at the end of the second Undisputed movie and is now fighting to regain his focus, rehab his knee, and ultimately gain his freedom by fighting in a tournament that features the best fighters in the world. The prison tournament is brought together by a powerful underground gambling syndicate and its fixed from the word go. While Boyka and American fighter Turbo (a charismatic Mykel Shannon Jenkins) must do hard labor at a hellish camp a massive fighter named Dolor has drugs hand-delivered to his cell and exists in relative comfort. Yes, the plot is nothing special. It reminds me of the basic cable actioners I grew up on as a kid, but if Undisputed 3 is a “B movie”, it’s one done to the highest possible level.
Expertly paced, with bloody fights, and amazing fighters, the movie draws you in and then delievers a knock out. The DVD looks and sounds great and though the movie is low-budget, it never really shows. Director Isaac Florentine deserves the credit here. He does an amazing job cutting the movie and his fight scenes are cleanly staged and easy to follow. Get the boys (and girls) together and pop Undisputed 3 in the DVD player for the best action movie of the year so far. I can’t wait to watch the DVD again. The fights are sick and it has at least 5-10 “oh shit” moments. Those are the moments so cool that everyone in your living room will all exclaim “oh shit”, at the same exact time.
