DVD Review: Monsuno – Destiny

monsuno DVD Review: Monsuno Destiny

The premise for “Monsuno” sounds really familiar:

Monsters are launched from a container by their masters as they duke it out.  Yes, it sounds like tv show in the 90’s that starts with “P” and ends with “N.”

“Monsuno” is a new tv show on Nicktoons.  It deals with main character, Chase and his 2 friends, Bren and Jinja as they try to fight the villains in S.T.O.R.M.  The baddies are after Chase because he has monsters called Monsumo, that’s suppose to control the destiny of Earth.  These monsters look like a combination of different animals such as a tiger and gorilla.  The catch (get it) is they have to get re-energized through a small capsule after a short amount after being released.  Just like that tv show in the 90’s, the monster released can be giants and controlled by whoever carries their respective capsule.

The show will be entertaining for kids but adults will not find any originality or creativity from the episodes.  It’s like the last Spider-Man movie, it didn’t need to be made but companies decided to release it anyways for money grabbing opportunities.

The DVD is presented in anamorphic widescreen with a ratio of 1.78:1.  The video is clear and the colors standout.  Audio is 2.0 Dolby Digital and it’s above average for a tv show with plenty of crashes and explosion to boot.

The set only has character bios as extras.  I suspect a full season’s worth of episodes will be released in the near future with plenty of extras.  This one has 5 titles with a running time of 22 minutes each.

Monsuno has nice animation but I was disappointed with the premise.  Kids will love this show but can’t recommend it to adults.
