Well, here it is, the complete season one and two of the 1983-1987 run of G.I. Joe : A Real American Hero cartoon from Sunbow. Encased in a green fiber-board footlocker with metal nickel trim.
Opening reveals a mission computer which also lifts to reveal two bricks of 17 DVDs complete with character art work on each–from Duke to Snake Eyes, Cobra Commander to Baroness (just to name a few) each disk set is themed to both G.I. Joe and Cobra.
Loaded with extras, featuring interviews with many people involved with the series including the toy-line and even Larry Hama from the Marvel comic book, the extra’s are very informing and some are quite fun or even cheesy.
The last tray of the second brick has an open spot labeled for the animated G.I. Joe Movie from 1987–I wonder if that’s going to be put out separately and loose to fit in?
Also included is a booklet containing short character profiles and a full episode list. There are also a variety of ad papers and stuff to get you to buy some more; including the Transformers box set. There is also a sheet of rub-on Tattoos–no thanks!
Finally there is a dog tag that is a 1GB USB drive that contains 2 comic strips, you can then transfer the contents of the drive to your computer and you’ll have a full 1GB to store your stuff on! Just hang it around your neck by the shot-chain and go!
Great collection! The picture is restored and while watching it you’ll get a few surprises such as seeing all of the flaws and animation mistakes, however, it looks good, is fully re-watchable and is super fun! Nothing like reliving childhood memories!
The best part is reliving Serpentor kicking Sgt. Slaughter’s ass–however, The Sarge is cool too!
As for the con’s, well, the disks are very tight, you worry about them snapping while trying to remove them. The bricks are a bit on the cheap side, but they should hold up under careful use. A lot of people might feel the set is a bit flimsy and I would agree with them, however, I am personally happy with it, I’ll just use some extra care. Shop around, there are many different prices including and up to over $200.00, you can get it at far less a price. This one came from Sears online for about $140.00, I’m sure there are cheaper, but this was ok for me.
Even after the con’s, I have to give the G.I. Joe: a Real American Hero-Footlocker…

Dang, that’s a lot of moolah. I think the most I spent on DVD was around $40.
That’s a nice looking set though.

Hey Michael, I hate to say it (especially for myself) but there is still nothing about the DIC cartoon. However, there are some people on YouTube who have quite a selection of the DIC episodes such as “Operation Dragonfire–Days 1-5” and many others.
As for hard copies of any of them…there are VHS tapes floating around with assorted episodes, check ebay or put in a search.
Hopefully, if the sales of the footlocker box set and the season sets were good, they will put the DIC seasons out to buy.
“Got to get tough, Yo Joe!”
