There’s a bunch of Zombie flicks out there, but since Diary of the Dead got a lot of bad reviews, I thought I’d check it out. To my surprise, this movie was entertaining as heck. The production value is cheap, but what else is new?
The premise of the story is that a bunch of film students are filming in the woods when the outbreak happened. So, they all got into their RV, and traveled to different locations looking for shelter, only to find that everybody has turned, almost like in The Walking Dead comics. Diary of the Dead is a pure rip-off of Blair Witch Project, as it is filmed in a documentary-style format, it’s unoriginal but it works. The characters are a mix-bag, some are cool and interesting, and some are just there to die. The coolest character is the professor, he looks like a useless old guy, but is actually a badass. Zombie death scenes can become too repetitive, but Romero does come up with unique ways to kill his zombies from time to time.
As shallow as this movie is, the message in the end is pretty cool. So, I recommend this cheese for brainless fun!
