Dark Knight Scribe Goyer to Redo Godzilla in 2014

Dark Knight Scribe Goyer to Redo Godzilla in 2014

Since Warner Brothers has all but abandoned the Akira remake, it would seem they’ve got $90 million burning a hole in their pockets. Why not go for yet another remake of a Japanese classic? This time, it’s the most iconic of all monster films: Godzilla. This appears to be an origin fim, and like what audiences seem to prefer these days, stuff is gonna be dark and gritty.

Look for Godzilla to start ravaging cities around May 16, 2014 and, oh yeah, it’ll be in 3D. Gareth Edwards (Monsters) will be directing and Goyer will be collaborating with Expendables /Doom writer David Callahan and Max Borenstein (The Seventh Son).  Warner will be handling worldwide distribution while Toho (the Japanese production company who put out the original Godzilla films) will handle distribution in Japan. Sounds like it’ll be a lot of brooding, moody, action-packed fun!  Or at least I’m hoping it’ll be better than the last one we tried to make… yeesh.
