The CW is about to order a pilot for a series called “Arrow” based on the DC comic character Green Arrow. The show will be an hour long and will be written and produced by the guys who brought us The Green Lantern, Greg Berlanti and Mark Guggenheim, along with Andrew Kreisberg (Vampire Diaries, Fringe). Kreisberg has also written several Green Arrow comics for DC in the past. David Nutter (Smallville, X-files) will likely be directing. This apparently will not be a spin-off of the Green Arrow who appeared on Smallville because Justin Hartley is not currently a part of the project… unfortunately.
The TV show will reportedly create an entirely new story for the character separate from the comics. But he will have the same attributes: a billionaire alter-ego, and trick arrows which contain glue, a net, tear gas and kryptonite. I’m partial to the arrows with the boxing glove on the end.

I’m not sure that this is a good idea but I’ll give it a shot. Doing it with a new actor is a mistake though.

Agreed. They are obviously trying to build upon the already strong Smallville fanbase but it might be a little too much to ask fans to buy into this character with a new actor.
