I went to see Lady Gaga last night at the Susquehanna Bank Center with my girlfriend and had a great time. We got there early and the doors didn’t open till 6:30pm so I got to check out the crowd, which was a real mix of gay men, lesbians, straight men, and even a few younger kids with their families. Gaga definitely reaches a wide audience. The place was barely organized and we were herded into the packed lobby to wait for the doors to the concert seating to open. The opening act was a glam rock band called Semi Precious Weapons, they seemed good if you like glam rock. I know about as much about glam rock as I do about Sri Lanka, so I’ll leave that review up to the experts. Kid Cudi came out next, and while not the greatest rapper in the world, he had a lot of energy, and the crowd was properly warmed up and bouncing to his hip hop. Day N Nite is probably the only song of his I really know. The video borrows heavily from the indie movie Cashback and I enjoy it a lot.

There was a LONG wait for Lady Gaga after Kid Cudi performed, luckily she was worth the wait. She took over an hour to start her concert, which compared to the horror stories I read about online, doesn’t seem all that bad. Tearing into her set of catchy pop tunes with an amazing stage setup, Gaga looked and sounded amazing. She stopped once in a while to give some props to the crowd of adoring fans and told us how much she appreciated our support. It’s been an amazing rise for Lady Gaga. I remember the first time I heard Just Dance, I knew I liked her, but never thought she would catch on in the dance-averse United States. Boy, was I wrong. Gaga performed Just Dance atop a neon green cube-like structure strutting around with the coolest keyboard known to man.
Gaga also performed most of her new songs off her EP. Alejandro is my favorite, a piece of pop perfection modeled after the Swedish Abba/Ace of Base sound. The song went over like gangbusters and should be her next single. Another impressive thing was that Lady Gaga sounded great live, unlike a lot of pop artists and she performed straight through her set, taking breaks while the massive screens on either side and behind her on stage blared techno and showed a series of her artsy poses and bizarre costumes.
Fans of Lady Gaga will not be disappointed by her stage show. It was definitely worth the money and the wait. I got to prance the night away. Lady Gaga will remind people of Madonna in her stagecraft, catchy pop tunes, and her outrageous statements and shocking performances. Her Poker Face was one for the ages and her show is one of a kind.

I enjoyed the review even though I think Lady Gaga, like much of Madonna, New Kids on the Block, Backstreet Boys, Brittany Spears et al make lightwight, throwaway music that isn’t going to last past her short reign as the media-driven flavor-of-the-month. She’ll have her fifteen minutes but will be remembered about as long as most of the summer blockbusters of the past few years.

Lady Gaga at Susquehanna Bank Center last night was excellent. I consider myself a stern critic of live music but as the article said Gaga is one of the few artists that sounds better live than on disk. The set was amazing with the latest in cinematography and her dance crew spilled over with energy. An absolutely incredible performance all round. I have to say our favorite was her piano solo (I think she played at least a few notes on the piano) Speechless – what a solo performance – stunning voice. I am old enough to say while at times she does sound like Abba she is officially the Madonna of 2009! Long Live Gaga and her little monsters of all persuasions!

She’s one of the few artists that I actually admire. She started off performing at small clubs and worked her way up, unlike Miley Cyrus and Jessica Simpson. She writes and composes her own music, and music for others like Britney Spears.

Ignore the haters Devin. There’s a lot of loons out there. I’ll be addressing the bogus Illuminati crap one day soon.
For you Gaga fans in the area, she’ll be returning to Philly in September and I’ll be there of course. Expect another concert review then :).
