As soon as I heard that Bill Seinkiewicz (Elektra: Assassin, 30 Days of Night) was doing the art on this, I knew it was going to be great. End of Days is a series Marvel is putting out about the “Man Without Fear” and if this first installment is any indication, it’s going to be one of the best books Marvel has released in a while.
The story is being told from the point of view of reporter Ben Urich. The internet has basically decimated the newspaper he works for and he is assigned what seems to be one last article: the story of Daredevil. This is the end of an era. Not only is the newspaper folding but there’s no one to interview anymore because no one cares, and if they do, they’re too apathetic to do anything about it.
The art is fittingly dark as The End of Days shouldn’t be all sunshine and roses and it’s definitely not in this book. There are night time city scenes and rain while Ben Urich walks the streets contemplating this epic story that he’s been assigned to write.
All the while, Daredevil’s shadow looms over the scene as the reader is being prepared for what’s coming. If this is the end, what came before it? What sort of tales does this reporter have to tell about a hero whose vigilante life he’s been covering all these years?
A couple of flashbacks hint at more to come, and this stirs up a feeling of anticipation. Will it be like looking through a photo album of days gone by, as you are taken on this journey of the life of one of the most prolific and influential comic book characters of all time?
I was introduced to Daredevil back when Frank Miller was brought in to revitalize the series and in doing so, ended up creating one of the greatest comic book love stories of all time: Daredevil and Elektra. Seinkiewicz’s work on the Elektra comic was definitely some of the best I’ve ever seen and it looks like the third installment will give the lady her due and hopefully wash away that bad taste the films left behind. Here is the cover to End of Days #3:

Great review man! I loved this issue too, I hope the series stays this good, the art kind of bugged me at first but I got used to it after a while.

Thanks!! I love Sienkeiwicz. His art is dark and a little unsettling but I think it works great with this story because it’s not supposed to be happy. 🙂

Is this supposed to be in Marvel continuity? Or an alternate universe?

As far as I can tell, not having read any spoilers or anything, it looks like it will strictly be Daredevil’s story as seen in the Marvel universe. It would be a shame if they made any references to the changes that were made for the film.
