For the lucky fans of CHUCK that made it to San Francisco for this year’s Wonder Con something awesome was waiting for them. They would be the first to watch the newest episode where Chuck would square off with Shaw to save the women he loves, a day before everyone else.
Following the screening, stars Zachary Levi, Joshua Gomez, Adam Baldwin, and Co-Creators Josh Schwartz and Chris Fedak took the stage to answer fan’s questions.
After three seasons Chuck and Sarah were finally brought together, too many fans delight.
Zachary Levi: “I feel like I’m with you guys, it’s been a tough relationship. But y’know, it was all in good time and it all worked out, and what better place to consummate a relationship with the Eiffel Tower standing tall. How’s that for symbolism?”
Originally the episode “CHUCK VERSUS THE OTHER GUY” was intended to be the season finale, but that has since changed.
Chris Fedak: “We essentially designed the whole season to get to this point, with Chuck and Sarah ending up in Paris and then we got the order for 6 more.“
Josh Schwartz: “It actually works out well for fans because you get what was designed as the finale in the middle of the season and then it’s on us to ramp it up again. It’s a Win-Win.“
Fans were also pleased when Joshua Gomez’s character Morgan Grimes had finally became an agent thanks to the help of the newly reinstated Colonel Casey. Fans can look foreword to some hilarious attempted training segments between Morgan and Casey in the future.
“CHUCK VERSUS THE OTHER GUY” also marked the end of Bradon Routh’s character Shaw.
Josh Schwartz: “That Arc was already designed, it was part of the pitch of the character when we first met with Brandon. We warned him that any man that that tries to get between Chuck and Sarah will face some mighty blogger wrath.”
This has been the case in the past when many fans expressed their anger on the internet after the episode “CHUCK VS THE MASK” aired. “Shippers” are die hard fans that are dedicated to the pairing of two characters and they are not to be taken lightly.
Josh Schwartz: “We knew we were pushing the story into a direction that might be uncomfortable for some fans. But we asked you to be patient and we hope what you witness tonight was worth the wait.“
Fans expressed their concern on how they can help to keep the show going. CHUCK has a very dedicated fan based but as seen with shows like Jericho sometimes it’s not enough.
Zachary Levi: “The most effective Television watching is live Television watching. To add to that watching a video you isn’t live, I hate to say it but it’s almost non effective. Advertisers need to know that their advertising dollars mean something, and if you zip through commercials on DVR, which is beautiful, I do it too. Or if you watch it on Hulu even, you only have one commercial in each one of those breaks. None of that means anything really at the end of the day to advertisers, it’s unfortunate but that’s just kinda how it is. So if you want to support the show in a way that really resonates with the people advertising the show, then watch it live and tell other people to watch it live. Specifically friends with Nielsen Boxes I guess, I don’t know any. “
Panel Host: “Someone here must be able to hack into Nielsen.”
Zachary Levi: “Right we’re Nerds, hack Nielsen. That should be the new slogan, ‘Hack Nielsen'”
Panel Host: “SAVE CHUCK, HACK NIELSEN”
Many studios have expressed their dislike of the dated and defective Nielsen Rating System that determines a show’s popularity for advertisers. The Nielsen Ratings are calculated in two ways. One is by the use of “Nielsen Boxes” that track the viewing habits of a selected few “Nielsen Families”. The second way Nielsen Ratings are tallied is by the use of surveys. A small number of people are asked to keep a daily diary of the shows they are watching and record them on the surveys.
As you can see these data collecting methods are extremely flawed. Some of you may be a Nielsen Family, but most likely you are not. Which is why each Nielsen Family must represent a very large portion of America: because the networks simply can’t know what every person is watching. A minority of the country is determining what is considered a hit and what will inevitably be cancelled. Doesn’t seem hardly accurate or fair, does it?
CHUCK has yet to be confirmed for another season. So if you wanna keep the show on the air tell all your friends to watch it live. CHUCK returns April 26th with a all new episode “Chuck Versus the Honeymooners” 8/7 c on NBC.
