I didn’t think the PS3 was this powerful but Sony’s latest firmware upgrade, 3.5, enables support for 3D for its games and movies.  I’m surprised Sony released this firmware this soon because not many titles are in 3d.  Maybe they get a comission for every PS3 game/Blu Ray 3D title that’s sold.  There’s a drawback to using the 3D feature though, no lossless sound.  Lossless sound will automatically downgrade to either Dolby Digital or DTS.  Now maybe I’ll get the 3-D version of Avatar whenever that’s coming out.

Linkin Park is doing some serious business with Bandai Namco’s Gundam series. Not only is the band contributing their song “The Catalyst” as a theme song to the Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs. arcade game, but a special edition of their latest album A Thousand Suns will come bundled with the “Full Vernian Linkin Park Edition” Gundam plastic model (“Gunpla”) that they helped design themselves.

In the new trailer for Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, it shows Captain America saving Chun Li from a chopper.  Sure, it’s a bit overdramatic and we don’t see actual gameplay but it’s still cool to see the characters that will be in the game.

Coolest part for me was when Vietiful Joe and Amaterasu showed up.  The graphics are so pretty…….…

Wow, this is so cool! Too bad Ikea doesn’t carry these, it’d be a top-seller.

Dvice also reported that hidden inside is a fully functional gigantic controller. How does that work? It would need at least 2 guys to efficiently work that thing!

Kotaku.com has released new pictures for Batman: Arkham City, the sequel to Arkham Asylum.  While the art design is similar to the first game, I think the anatomy of the characters look better.  The game is scheduled to be released in Fall of 2011 but the hype for this game is already insane.  Click on the pictures for hi-res version.

The design is obviously from Jim Lee.  Don’t remember her showing that much cleavage though.

Joystiq has reported that the subscription fee for  Xbox Live will increase starting November 1st.  One month will rise from $7.99 to $9.99; three months from $19.99 to $24.99; and a full year from $49.99 to $59.99. I haven’t used Xbox Live for a couple of years now because I switched my online play to PS3.  It seems like video game companies are trying to find more ways to make more money.  Activision is planning to charge extra for their new Call Of Duty game while Sony is offering exclusive content for PS3.

The mega hit video game Red Dead Redemption might be in the works to come to the silver screen.  Showbizspy.com is reporting that Brad Pitt is in talks to play the lead character, John Marston.  As most of you know, Red Dead Redemption is published by Rockstar, the same guys behind the GTA franchise.  I’m about halfway through Red Dead Redemption and I think some of the subplot could be worked into the movie.  I just hope the filmmakers won’t put the “matrix style” slo mo in the game and they will find a way to make Marston’s shooting style badass.  …

Blizzard has announced that they won $88 million from Scapegaming over emulator servers.  Blizzard argued that Scapegaming didn’t have the right to run WOW on their servers and made the following statement over the ruling:

“We wanted to make sure you were aware of an important court decision made recently regarding the protection of our intellectual property. On August 10, the U.S. District Court ruled that the organization known as Scapegaming, which was operating and charging players for access to a set of World of Warcraft emulator servers, had violated Blizzard’s rights in doing so.”

Final Fantasy is a video game series from the role playing genre that has been entertaining gamers for years.
