Basketball and video game enthusiasts got a treat last night as NBA legends showed up at West L.A. Best Buy for the launch party of NBA 2k12.  People lined up for 7 hours to secure an autograph from living legend and NBA Hall of Famer, Magic Johnson.  The NBA’s logo and  also Hall of Famer, Jerry West, showed up to lend his support.

Xbox 360’s exclusive, Gears Of Wars 3, has become the #1 game of 2011 after its first week.  I’m sure it’ll get dethroned by MW 3 (amongst other blockbuster titles) but the game has sold more than 3 million copies so far.  I played about 10 minutes of it at a friend’s house and the gameplay was better than its predecessors.  Controls are more responsive and the graphics also look great.  It makes me want to buy a 360 just for this game alone.

In video game movie news, Lionsgate has just announced that it obtained the rights to make a Dead Island movie based on the game and particularly that gut-wrenching teaser which was released in February of this year.  While it might seem odd to base an entire movie off a trailer, the clip did get 1 million hits in less than 24 hours and the game, which was just released this month, has sold over 2 million units so far, thanks much in part to that trailer.

Only eight months following the release of DC Universe Online, Sony Online Entertainment has announced that the MMO will be free to play starting in October.  This latest move is not, according to SOE President John Smedley, happening because of low subscriber numbers.  The game apparently cost Sony a lot more than they thought it would and they were planning on going free to play from the beginning. 

While PS3 and PC players can download the game for free, there are levels which cost money to play and there will be microtransactions where you can download gamepacks, powers, character slots, etc. …

Both games will be available for download on the Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles. RE 4 comes out September 20th and Code Veronica on September 27th.

Resident Evil 4 is one of the best games on Game Cube. Heck, it’s one of the best games of all time. But, I’d have to wait and see how much improvement is made before I buy.

On a side note, I just picked up Resident Evil 4 (used) for PS2 for $5 yesterday. My Game Cube version was sold awhile back.…

Divorce rate in 2011 is pretty high with around 50%.  But it’s even higher in the video game world MapleStory, with close to 75% of the marriages ending in divorce.  Nexon America, the company producing the game reported that last year in North America, 26,982 in-game marriages were performed with a price tag of $25 per wedding. Of those marriages, 20,344, or 75 percent, have since been annulled at the players’ request.

Although Activision CEO Eric Hershberg mentioned a few weeks ago that this was in the works, he officially announced friday night at the Call of Duty XP  that the Scott bros will be creating episodic video content for the premium service.  It was reported on Nerdsociety recently that Jason Bateman and Will Arnett’s production company DumbDumb will also be creating web content for the Elite TV service.

Scott’s web series will be called Friday Night Fights and will feature live combatants playing the multiplayer game.  Besides this little project, Ridley Scott will be rebooting Blade Runner (finally!) and is working on …

Straight from Japan and after about 7 months on pre-order is Black Rock Shooter: The Game-Premium White Box.

This is the definitive version of the first Black Rock Shooter video game. Playable on any PSP world wide and in the Japanese language, BRS: The Game came in a large and beautiful box with great head-shot images of Black Rock Shooter and White Rock Shooter. This set comes complete with the PSP game which once again is playable in all PSP systems, however it is entirely in Japanese so it’s feel it out as you go along–unless you know Japanese.

In case you missed the Anime Expo 2011 in Los Angeles, fans of the virtual idol Hatsune Miku will still get to experience her live performance there when Sega releases the CD and DVD on December 21.  According to ANN, 5000 fans attended the concert and also got to see Miku’s buddies Kagamine Len & Rin and Megurine Luka.  I’m surprised Black Rock Shooter didn’t make an appearance.  I’m sure she would’ve been a huge hit.
