German gamer mag Game Star is reportedly leaking information that EA’s next project is a Sim City game due out next year.  No reports yet as to what platform but a rumor went around in May of last year that it was to be a Facebook game to reclaim the environment building genre from Farmville. Not a good idea in light of lagging Facebook game play and the failure of Sim City Societies in 2007.

The anime con AM2 announced that it will be hosting the US premier of the live-action adaption of the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Nintendo DS game.  The film was directed by Takashi Miike (Ichi the Killer, 13 Assassins) and centers around the first game in the series.  There will be two screenings at the convention:  one for premium passport ticket holders and another for everyone else with preferential seating given to premium passport ticket holders.

Threadless just announced that several cool designs from their shirts are now available in Xbox’s Avatar Marketplace.  The funny part is that the hoodies cost more than the regular shirts that your avatar will be wearing.  I guess pricing structure in the digital world is the same as ours.  The shirt will cost 80 MS points, while the hoodies will cost 160.

Resident Evil 6 has been confirmed by Capcom and will be released November 20, 2011.  The game seems to combine the old school elements (zombies, creepy atmosphere) and the more action packed last 2 installments.  The graphics look great and the gameplay looks fun!…

The game centers around two characters from the books, Mors, a nightwatchman and Alester, a red priest. The graphics look pretty decent. Here is a description of the game from ComingSoonCinemas:

Just when I thought the video game industry was thriving with AAA titles such as Batman: Arkham City, Uncharted 3, Modern Warfare 3 and Zelda: Skyward Sword for the Christmas season, CBS has reported  video game sales were down by 21% for December compared to 2010.  The industry is blaming the old consoles for the declining sales.  They’re probably right, everybody that wanted a console, whether it’s a PS3, Xbox 360 or a WII probably has one by now.  The systems are affordable that you can even have all three consoles for a cheap price…hint Craigslist.

The Marvel: Avengers Alliance Facebook game is an RPG that lets you battle villains with hand-picked Avengers dream teams. The storyline, which was created just for the game, has Manhattan as the battleground.  Here is a description of the game, courtesy of MTV Geek:

Flash dances are usually full of  pretentious hipsters. But in Times Square in New York, Mortal Kombat introduced a new kind of flash dance: something actually fun and freestyling.  I love this video, it’s well thought out including the special effects and the last part.  The best part, none of the crowd were actually confused and just had fun with them.

Scorpion was my favorite with the old school boombox.

Do you speed around town like Sonic the Hedgehog?  Flo and company want you to forget about the Geico gecho because Progressive has Sonic the Hedgehog to grab your attention.  In this dizzying commercial, Sonic speeds around a Progressive Insurance “store” while Flo looks on until finally she stops him and asks him if he needs help finding insurance. Not sure what demographic they’re going for with this ad.  I have a special place in my heart for Sonic the Hedgehog but I’m not sure if his hold on my life is strong enough to lure me away from State Farm, …

COD: MW 3  – 9.3 million
Battlefield 3 – 5 million

That’s how many copies each game sold on their first week (with reputable sites questioning the copies sold for BF 3, more like in the 2-3 million is the speculation).    So Activision wins again but they’re not done yet.  They’re suing EA for $400 million for supposedly trying to talk to former Call Of Duty developers, Jason West and and Vince Zampella.  The COD developers are suing Activision for royalties.  In the lawsuit, Activision is blaming EA for the two guys leaving the company.
