5 episodes down for the very cool Kamen Rider series and the show continues to develop intriguing ideas.  I noticed that Dragon Knight Incisor wasn’t clicking with the fans (though I thought he was fun and I noticed a subtle gay subtext to his character Richie) so we’ve moved on to a new villain already after Richie was “vented” last episode.  We meet a new villainous Kamen Rider named Drew who is scouting both Kitt and the brooding Len (Matt Mullins).  There are more fun fight scenes but the show is mostly about the relationship between reluctant hero Kitt (a staple …

Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight Episode 4 Review

Another week goes by and another very good episode of Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight.  We get some more backstory and another very cool fight or two.  There’s a lot of backstory backed into the 22 minutes and we learn more about the Kamen Riders.  There are 12 Kamen Riders and when one is defeated they wind up in the “Advent Void”, which sounds like a kind of limbo that you can never escape from.

Len defeats Dragon Knight Incisor and Incisor winds up evaporating and then he is never seen from again.  As the episode ends we see a new Kamen …

Kamen Rider really kicked into high gear over the weekend offering both action and a deeper understanding of its story and mythology.  The 3rd episode was the best so far as we meet the big baddie of the show named General Xaviax.  He’s a monster in human form whose true shape can be glimpsed in any reflective surface.  He is recruiting fighters to destroy the new Kamen Rider (Kitt)  and Dragon Knight Wing (Matt Mullins).  He wants their advent decks (the source of the power for the riders) and eventually to rule the world.

This was easily the best episode yet …

Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight Episode 2 Review

Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight Episode 2 Review

kamen rider logo Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight Episode 2 Review

Episode 2 of the hit series Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight aired Saturday morning at 11:30am on The CW.  The episode picked up shortly after the events of the first episode.  Kitt makes his “contract” with the dragon and officially becomes a kamen rider while the brooding Matt Mullins goes Emo and sneers a lot.  The fight scenes are again directed with great panache by Steve Wang.  Someone must be dropping acid before they came up with this thing.  Kamen Riders can go through mirrors or any reflective surfaces and go from our world to the world just behind those mirrors.  The …

The eagerly awaited US version of Kamen Rider hit the airwaves over the weekend and not even a crappy network (CW 4 Kids) showing a million commercials could ruin the buzz.  Kamen Rider had me at hello.  A giddy and surreal mix of Power Rangers and The Matrix, the show is genuinely cool and the effects are a lot of fun.  The secret weapon to the show’s success is Steve Wang.  He has cherographed and directed everything from Power Rangers to the underrated feature films Guyver: Dark Hero (live action) and the underrated gem called Drive.  Wang keeps the fights surreal …

Heroes Season 3 Episode 10: The Eclipse Part 1 Recap

 heroes s3 e10 01 Heroes Season 3 Episode 10: The Eclipse Part 1 Recap

Another Heroes episode has come and gone. I’ve pretty much given up on the show’s ability to match the scope of the first season. With that said, all the episodes that we’ve seen so far in season 3 are slowly progressing. It’s as if they ran out of ideas and is dragging an hour episode into a whole season.…

heroes s3 e8 01 Heroes Season 3 Episode 8: Villains Recap

Now we’re getting to the good stuff.  An exciting episode from Heroes? You’re kidding me right?  Well this episode has me excited only because it was able to link season 3 to season 1.  Even though the episode is called “Villains,” it should have been called, “How Heroes Got Fun.”

The Past

In the last episode, we end up with Hiro with the African’s power, which I learned in this episode that his name is Usutu.  Hiro’s eyes turn white and he is unconscious.  With the Usutu’s powers, he is now able to see the past, about 18 months to 12 …

DVD Review: Reaper Season One

51lHSd9JDuL. SS500 DVD Review: Reaper Season One

Reaper is a very good televison series.  The show is well-acted, consistently amusing, and extremely well-written.  Reaper debuted last year on The CW Network and quickly established itself as one of the best series on television.  The show was highlighted by Ray Wise’s wonderful, scene-stealing turn as The Devil.  Wise plays the Devil with just the right amount of gleeful smarmy and a touch of the menace necessary to the character, but mostly, he’s just hilarious.  The whole cast is extremely good and the show actually improved after it returned post-writers strike.  It was one of the rare shows to do …
