The second season of The Legend of Korra is a weird one to say the least. The first few episodes leading up to Avatar Wan range from utter stupid bullshit to just barely mediocre, the ones that take place after are pretty damn enjoyable and manage to capture many of the things that made the original series so beloved. With a pretty even 50/50 split there it falls to the finale to decide on what kind of note the season will end on.

Following the spectacular “Beginnings Part 1 & 2” which managed to begin the redemption process for LoK, I fully expected the show to go back to BS mode following the last few episodes being pretty damn great. Thankfully this isn’t the case and for the first time I feel like the show has found its footing and knows where it wants to go but not without some lingering issues keeping it down.

Ever since the Avatar was fully explained thanks to Roku in the original series, most fans of the show, myself included, immediately started to wonder who was the first Avatar? “The Sting” is without a doubt the best episode of the show by far because it eliminates many of the problems that have been plaguing it thus far by getting rid of Korra for most of the episode, focusing on the sole compelling character left in the A-plot Mako, character choices (finally) having some consequences, improving the animation and did I mention the fact Korra is absent through most of it?

The moment when Mako officially became a badass. 

I cannot believe I’m saying this but… I think Mako may be the character who I’m able to relate to the most out of everyone in the show and because he’s the only sane person left in the A-plot, he may very well become my favorite character if they keep going in this direction with him. Hannibal is an excellent, intelligent serial killer series and a treat for horror and drama fans. Well-acted, cast, and shot, its one of the best new series on television.
