kamen rider3 DVD Review: Kamen Rider V3!

You might already be familiar with the Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight series currently showing in the US.  Kamen Rider V3 was a live-action, superhero TV show that first came out in the early 70’s, around the same time as Kikaider. (See my Kikaida article for more info).  A guy named Toru Hirayama got together with Ishinomoto, the creator of Kikaider, and put together a TV show based on a v3b DVD Review: Kamen Rider V3!guy who wore a mask and costume that somewhat resembled a grasshopper. It was called Kamen Rider (which means “masked rider”).

The two shows follow a similar formula:  a cyborg …

kikaida 1024x768 DVD Pick of the Week: Jinzo Ningen Kikaida!

Before there was the Power Rangers, or any other Japanese-inspired, live-action, superhero television show on for that matter, two series aired in Hawai’i and briefly in various cities around the continental U.S. called  Kikaider and Kamen Rider V3.

kikaider01 262x300 DVD Pick of the Week: Jinzo Ningen Kikaida!Anyone who grew up in Hawai’i in the 70’s and 80’s knows about Kikaida and Kamen Rider V3.  They were tokusatsu (live-action superhero) shows which aired on an all-Japanese channel and although many of the young viewers could not understand the Japanese language, they fell in love with these shows nonetheless.   Many could not even read English well enough to …

Power Rangers Convention – Morphicon

Power Rangers Convention – Morphicon

Pasadena, CA – Power Morphicon has come and gone, it was a mid-size event with a very good turnout. There were cosplayers, action figures, and Power Rangers from different generations signing autographs for the excited fans. I’m glad to say that Power Rangers is still kickin today, I remembered watching the shows afters school when it first came out. Of course, tons of Power Rangers have come and gone, but nothing stuck in people’s minds like Tommy, the Green Ranger. He was there and got the longest line for autographs. In case you didn’t know, he’s now a professional MMA …

Matt Mullins 21 Interview with Mortal Kombat: Rebirth Short Star Matt Mullins (Johnny Cage)

I interviewed Matt Mullins a while back while he was on the television series Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight and he was gracious enough to talk to me about his awesome Mortal Kombat: Rebirth short film. Matt plays Johnny Cage in the popular short and I ask him about the making of the short film and the chances that it will become a feature-length movie.

Kamen Rider Sting TV Review: Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight Episode 19 Semper Fi

This week’s episode of Kamen Rider is easily the best of the series so far. An important episode that sets up a good chunk of the rest of the series. The episode is all about loyalty, friendship, and sacrifice. One of the riders makes the ultimate sacrifice to save another. The acting is improving each week and especially interesting is the character of Kamen Rider Sting. Chris Ramirez was a marine who got a medical discharge and was tricked into fighting for General Xaviax. After being told the truth, he has been fighting along side Wing Knight and Dragon Knight to …
