Batman Arkham Knight Trailer: Gotham is Mine

While Marvel might have the current monopoly on bankable superhero films, DC and Warner Bros. seem to be doing a lot better with their video games. But while I thoroughly enjoyed the Batman: Arkham City game, I found that the Arkham Origins game to be lacking somehow.  Just more of the same stuff with slightly better animation.

I’m hoping Arkham Knight gives us more of these other characters like Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy without having to spend too much on DLC.  If it can recapture the magic from Arkham City by offering the open city environment allowing for lots of …

The Machine Movie Film Review: The Machine (2013)

The Machine is a British sci-fi film starring Caity Lotz (who played Black Canary on Arrow) as Ava and Toby Stephens as Vincent, a doctor in some futuristic government operation that creates android soldiers. Vincent finds an up and coming scientist in Ava who creates a robotic brain that is so self-aware, Vincent hires Ava on the spot and so begins the android’s journey.

The Good:

The Machine is obviously fairly low-budget but manages to hide it pretty well. The CG effects are decent but luckily the script doesn’t call for much. The outdoor city scenes are reminiscent of Blade

Who do you look to in those lean times when it’s slim pickins in Metropolis… or Gotham…?

Here is a fan trailer which answers all those questions. I give you, Man of Steel 2:

Documentary Review: Buffalo Girls [Thailand] 2012

Buffalo Girls is an amazing documentary about two impoverished 8 year old Muay Thai fighters who earn money through fighting to help their families survive in rural Thailand. The film follows Pet and Stam both in the ring and out, as they make their way along Thailand’s underground child boxing arena. While both girls are great at Muay Thai, their disparity is evident not only physically and in their techniques, but socially, financially and in the way they approach their careers.  I had seen clips of kids fighting in Thailand in the past but they always seemed inexperienced. Not the case …

Honest Trailer – Man of Steel

Honest Trailer – Man of Steel

supeshonest Honest Trailer Man of Steel

No doubt in honor of the Man of Steel DVD release, the guys from Screen Junkies who put out the Honest Trailers, spoofed the latest Superman movie with their usual biting wit and highly critical and discerning eye.  What I love about the Honest Trailers is that, yeah, okay they rip some of these films to shreds but they do it in a fun way, and make a lot of great points in the process.  Without further ado, here’s the Honest Trailer for Man of Steel.

One of the drawbacks of being such a fan of Asian cinema is knowing how fond these filmmakers are of infusing their stories with a touch of tragedy to make them more poignant. I’m not talking about the whole set up that American dramas like to do where they introduce an adorable but clearly expendable character, someone comparable to a cuddly little teddy bear, then kill them off for tragedy’s sake. No, I’m talking about the kind of story where main characters get killed off just because. So for me, when I’m watching, it becomes a sort of game wondering …
