Mego Retro-Action toys

Mego Retro-Action toys

As the holidays get closer, one can`t help but think about compiling gift lists, and those include toys! While browsing in  a local toy store last week, some of the re-issued Mego-type action figures caught my eye.  Mattel has re-introduced several of the DC  heroes in their Retro-Action line, including Batman, Superman, and the Flash.  Villains like Manta and Two-Face  are also featured.  They are dressed in colorful cloth outfits which mirror the ones worn by the 70`s/early 80`s Megos-and also bring back memories of my brother and I carefully peeling off the figures` cloth leotards and dressing them as each …

Rad Review: Rodimus Prime!

Rad Review: Rodimus Prime!

In 1986 the Transformers movie came out to an awesome story, great new characters and the tear-filled eyes of almost every child who watched.

With the death of Optimus Prime at the hands of Megatron a new leader for a new generation had to be born to not only lead the heroic Autobots against the evil Decepticons but also to sell the new line of toys to the masses.

Rodimus Prime was this bot and he was “stepped on” from the time he installed the Autobot Matrix of Leadership into his crankcase.

Originally Hot Rod–Autobot Cavalier and young upstart in …

In another case of “why’d it take so long to do that,” the Dutch company who owns the “Miffy” rights has won a copyright infringement lawsuit against Sanrio for a bunny character that looks a little too much like theirs.  Dick Bruna, the guy who created Miffy like 45 years ago, has openly accused Hello Kitty of copying his style for, well, probably since Hello Kitty came out in 1974.  Bruna’s Miffy hasn’t always looked like this, however; he changed her design to the current one in the 60’s.

Fat Chow Yun Fat Headsculpt

Fat Chow Yun Fat Headsculpt

No, it’s not a typo. A company is looking for distributors for 1/6th scale Chow Yun Fat headsculpts. And, on some of the photos, he looks old and fat. Chow Yun Fat is one of my favorite actors, but I have to admit that he has bunch of movies I haven’t seen yet, so maybe these sculpts are based on some of those movies.

Thanks to Onesixth for these photos.

Maybe, they can still fix the “fat” issue. If done right, the sculpts would make for a great Tequilla Custom figure.

Batman Kubricks – Wonderful Toys!

Batman Kubricks – Wonderful Toys!

What’s a kubrick you ask?  They’re little figures that looks like Legos.  They’re really popular in Japan and they’re starting to pick up steam in the U.S.  The figures are usually licensed by major franchises, in this case, it’s Batman!  They usually range from $7-$11 per figure.  What I love about this set is the different versions of Batman.  There’s one from Dark Knight, the comics, the Tim Burton movie and animated series.  There’s other characters as well, such as Joker and Superman.

MOTU Classic’s: Zodac!

MOTU Classic’s: Zodac!

At first look Zodac might come off as boring to some people. He comes with armor and a gun and that’s about it. However, I find that the value of the figure is in the details.

Zodac 1 725x1024 MOTU Classic’s: Zodac!

Zodac has the body parts, including the hands and feet of a villain such as Skeletor–with fins on his wrists and lower arms and three pointy toes on his feet. It’s the body itself that has such great detail though, Zodac has hair or fur and it’s well detailed throughout his upper body. Basic, I know, but it’s cool nonetheless. Zodac’s head is quite disguised …

Bitch’in Toy: Rodimus Minor AKA Hot Rod!

Bitch’in Toy: Rodimus Minor AKA Hot Rod!

It’s a sad day when you get the last piece from a collection that has been in the making for a few years.

Finally, Rodimus Minor (whom will be referred to as Hot Rod from now on) is in my hands and at the top of my collection of Transformers Animated figures.

HotRod 1 637x1024 Bitch’in Toy: Rodimus Minor AKA Hot Rod!

Hot Rod is detailed in such a way that even Judd Nelson would be happy to voice him again!  As a sports car he looks almost like the original from the 80’s. There is a difference in size but between the paint job, the large canopy window (that opens) …

MOTU Classic’s: Roboto!

MOTU Classic’s: Roboto!

New from Mattel is Roboto the mechanical soldier of good and the heroic answer to Trap Jaw.
“Mister” Roboto was one of the most popular figures from the 80’s due to his clear upper body with working gears inside and the ability to change weapons on his arm. These weapons include a gun, axe, claw or pincer and new for this figure is a matching hand!

Roboto comes in just about the same colors as his 80’s counterpart except there is a lot more detail. As with most of the new Masters of the Universe figures the articulation is great and …
