EASY A Movie Review: Easy A

Easy A is an amusing, teen comedy spin on The Scarlett Letter. The movie takes its inspiration from the classic (but hard to read or enjoy) novel. Easy A is very much in the vain of Clueless or 10 Things I Hate About You, but its script isn’t as clever as either of those two films. It’s more mildly amusing than laugh out loud funny. Still, Easy A hits on some truths about the pain of high school life and the obvious double standard involving sex. Guys get congrats and body bumps for having a lot of sex, while girls are …

Weekend Movie Roundup Review: Nuns Are Easy Edition

town movie poster 1020554239 Weekend Movie Roundup Review: Nuns Are Easy Edition

Lots of good movies are coming out this weekend.  Ben Affleck is in a crime drama, while Emma Stone (Superbad) is in a Juno type flick.  For all you Facebook lovers, there’s a suspense thriller called Catfish.  Devil, produced by M Night seems to be a stinker.  Let’s take a look at the reviews.

Directed and starring Ben Affleck, The Town is getting a nearly perfect review with 90% at Rotten Tomatoes.  The crime drama is described as part Heat and part Mystic River.  Filmcritic.com describes it as “Compelling, complex, and crackling with suspense, Affleck’s sophomore effort is every bit as …

Chuck Season 31 Blu Ray Review: Chuck Season 3

Show:
With ratings not as high as NBC hoped, the crreators of Chuck didn’t expect to get a renewal for a third season.  The second season tied up all the loose ends with Chuck (Zachary Levi) becoming a spy, his mentor and romantic interest, Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) falling for him and his best friend Morgan following his dreams.  But with hardcore fan support and budget cuts, Chuck was renewed for a third season by NBC.  The season starts off with Chuck failing a spy test and it gets worse as he gets kicked out from the program and loses his love, …

Resident Evil 11 Movie Review: Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D

Resident Evil: Afterlife is loud, inane, often dumb, in other words, a near perfect addition to the Resident Evil franchise. I have great affection for the first two Resident Evil flicks, while the 3rd one was somewhat lacking. It was basically a Mad Max clone that wasn’t bad, but only rousing from time to time. Original director and slick hack Paul W.S Anderson is back in the director’s chair and he brings with him a bag of 3D tricks and some kick-ass action scenes. Turn your brain off and enjoy the ride.

Resident Evil: Afterlife picks up after the events of …

Comic Review: Hercules – The Thracian Wars

Comic Review: Hercules – The Thracian Wars

Hercules: The Thracian Wars is a great graphic novel, full of amazing art, and a captivating story. It starts with Hercules’ nephew traveling through the dirty roads of Thrace, his cousin narrates the book. The Thracian king has hired Hercules and his team of misfits to train the Thracian army. Hercules arrives and is immediately ridiculed by the guards as being too small. This did not end well.

The story is very good from the beginning to the end. Most characters have different levels of personalities. Hercules and his bandits are all interesting in their own little way, they are not …

Shirt Review: Retro Outlaw

Shirt Review: Retro Outlaw

retro outlaw shirt1 Shirt Review: Retro Outlaw

There’s a lot of nerdy shirts out there but Retro Outlaw’s unique style caught my attention.  The vintage design, mininal colors and mashup of iconic images make the brand stand out from other companies.  I wasn’t sure what size to go with because it was my first time getting shirts from them.  I decided to go with one small and one medium.   Just to give you an idea, I’m 5’7′ and 135 lbs and the small shirt was too tight for me.  The medium was perfect.

For the small shirt, I got a mashup of Pulp Fiction and Planet Of The …

Weekend Movie Review Roundup: Zombie and Wrestling Edition

Weekend Movie Review Roundup: Zombie and Wrestling Edition

resident evil afterlife 3d banner1 thumb Weekend Movie Review Roundup: Zombie and Wrestling Edition

This weekend should be slow with students back in school and no high profile movies coming out.  The biggest movie release this weekend is the tired but profitable, Resident Evil: Afterlife.  There’s also a movie starring John Cena coming out this weekend but it’d be lucky if it made more than $5 million.

Let’s take a look at the reviews:

Resident Evil: Afterlife only has 4 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and they’re all negative.  With the small amount of review, this means the movie is really bad and the studio doesn’t want negative publicity.  The movie is in 3-D but who …

caliber Comic Review: Caliber

Soon to be a motion picture, Caliber is one of Radical Publishing first comics, it was released in 5 different issues, but now collected into one book. The story is a re-imagination of the Arthurian tale. But, instead of knights, kings, and castles; we have indians, brothels, saloons, and a dirty old town.

Centurion 1 Movie Review: Centurion

Neil Marshall is a B-movie expert who has quite the cult following after directing the horror hits Dog Soldiers and The Descent. His last movie was a fun, trashy ode to The Road Warrior called Doomsday and he follows it up with a hack and slash classic called Centurion. Centurion is a gritty, gorgeously mounted action picture about a group of Roman soldiers being hunted by a tribe of nasty Picts led by a vengeful, mute warrior woman. The grimy gore meshes seamlessly with the striking and bleak cinematography of a harsh and unforgiving landscape. The excellent and charismatic Michael Fassbender …

DVD Review: Batman The Brave And The Bold

DVD Review: Batman The Brave And The Bold

brave bold cover DVD Review: Batman The Brave And The Bold

Part of the first season of Cartoon Network`s The Brave and the Bold was released on DVD  a few weeks ago {Aug. 17, Warner Home Video}.   This show has had a major place in my heart since it came out.  For years I was somewhat grumpy about any new Batman cartoon, maintaining a stubborn loyalty to the WB Batman series.  But B&B broke through my resistance with its  Silver Age-drawn characters, witty dialogue, and eye-popping colors. Voice talents are well matched, too, featuring Diedrich Bader as Batman and James Arnold Taylor as Green Arrow, among others.

One of my favorite guest …
