New Orleans Part 2

New Orleans Part 2

So I covered Saturday-Sunday of my New Orleans here.  This article will cover the rest of my trip from the Big Easy.

Monday:
After having about 4 hours of sleep, I wake up early to get ready for the Plantation Tour.  I asked the front desk which tour was the best and he suggested I take the Laura tour instead of the more famous Oak Alley.  He said the Laura tour had more information and didn’t shy away from the history of the slaves.  I take his advice and wait for the shuttle.  It turned out Brian was also the …

New Orleans Trip Part 1

New Orleans Trip Part 1

I just came back from the best trip ever: New Orleans.  It was part business trip, so I went  by myself and stayed 6 days in the city.  What made New Orleans so great was the awesome food, rich culture and the friendly people.

Here’s part 1 of my day by day summary:

Saturday:
Arrived in the afternoon and rode a taxi without an a/c.  It was about a 20 minute ride to my hotel to the Garden District.  Weather was humid but not bad.  Checked in real quick and asked the front desk about the D-Day Museum.  …

On Sunday, my friends were involved with the Vietnamese Association Show(VSA) at Orange Coast College.  I tagged along to see what the show was all about.  Initially, Mongoose was suppose to take care of the photo shoot.  But he got sick over the weekend so I took over his duty.  I’m not as good as Mongoose when it comes to photography but I’m comfortable enough to shoot with a DSLR.

 Photography: Tmax100 pushed to 800

Yeah, it’s a 3-stop push, which is probably the limit on most films. Apparently, the film gets thinner everytime it is “pushed.” So, the quality deteriorates for each level of pushing. I read about what could happen, some people say that it’s useless to push 3-stops because the film loses so much detail that it’s pointless, while others suggest trying it for “artistic” purposes. So, I tried it.

Exhausted!

Two weeks ago, my fellow blogger, Spartan, moved to a new apartment. So, I figured why not waste film on this eventful gathering of friends.  The friends came by and helped, along …

Photography: Interview with Jean-Sebastien Monzani Part 2

Last week was part 1 of Jean-Sebastien’s interview. In part 2, he talks about his favorite photograph; his goals for the future; his advice to aspiring photographers, and more.

Photography: Interview with Jean Sebastien Monzani Part 2

NS: How did you come up with the idea of combining the fantasy world with the real world?

JSM:  Simply because it’s what I had in mind: I don’t know, it just came like this.

Do you plan everything out before you go out on your shoots?

JSM:  In order to make a session run smoothly, it is safer to plan it as much as possible. I start by looking around …

Okay, I finally got my pictures from Wal-Mart. It only took them 2 weeks, but the quality of the prints are superb. The first time I used a Tmax100 film, it all went bad. I’ve been asking around online what went wrong, but nobody seems to know for sure. This time, the prints came out nice and clean, and the mid-tones are well balanced.

My verdict is that I like this film, but I prefer a little grain in my photos. I also like my photos to be a little sharper. The grains add texture to the photographs. However, the …
