Dir en grey performed at the Wiltern this past Saturday on November 29, 2008. This was a night after Black Friday, the day I regretted sitting in my car overnight waiting for the doors to open at Circuit City. With little sleep and the cold weather, the sickness caught up to me. Plus I had to drive to Los Angeles with my girlfriend and two other buddies. I mean, one sneeze could do me in.…

The Mad Musician – Doctor Steel

The Mad Musician – Doctor Steel

drsteel1 The Mad Musician Doctor Steel

When you think of a global dictator, you think of a tyrant, who wants power and nothing else. Well, Doctor Steel wants to be a global dictator, but he isn’t a tyrant. He just wants the whole world to be one big happy place. That’s something we can all hope for. How will Dr. Steel accomplish his goal? By having his toy soldiers (fans) from all over the world, spread his word through his music.

Dr. Steel’s music is hard to describe. Think circus tunes, add a little bit of rock and metal and what you get is a tune that …

MJ 04 Heeeeee Heeee! Ooooo! Why?

Hot Toys announces the release of a Michael Jackson 12-inch action figure. I gotta give Hot Toys credit for being bold on this. They are mainly known for their awesome Movie Lines such as Rambo and Predator. But, now they enter the pedo zone. Oh well, I guess Michael is innocent until proven guilty. Maybe he’s still popular in Asia?

Will these figures sell? You be the judge.…

MGS Theme Created in 74?

MGS Theme Created in 74?

Yeah, I’m late in the game but I just found this out after finishing up MGS4 (I didn’t want to spoil myself so I steered clear from anything Metal Gear related).

The video above shows the instrumental “The Snowstorm – Winter Road” by Sviridov.  It is eerily similar to the Metal Gear Solid theme. This piece was created in ’74, clearly way before when Metal Gear was created.  The person responsible for the MGS theme is Tappy, back in ’98 when the first Metal Gear Solid game came out (Harry Gregson-Williams only rearranged it for MGS2 and MGS3.)

Nothing is certain …

Music CD Review: Katy Perry “One of the Boys”

Music CD Review: Katy Perry “One of the Boys”

618Onv1jgRL. SS500 Music CD Review: Katy Perry One of the Boys

Katy Perry’s radio-friendly smash hit “I Kissed a Girl” is the latest song to get on the annoying “pseudo-lesbian” gravy train. It’s really just a cynical product and it would be easy to dismiss it as such, but that would be selling the song short. As grating as the trend is, the song is a terrific piece of pop rock, as easy on the ears as the theme is grating and overused. “I Kissed a Girl” is one of the best songs out there on top 40 radio, but the rest of Perry’s CD does not live up to that song. …

Music CD Review: Duffy, “Rockferry”

Music CD Review: Duffy, “Rockferry”

51xNrzL %2BlL. SS400 Music CD Review: Duffy, Rockferry

Welsh singer Duffy’s debut CD Rockferry is easily one of the best CDs of the year so far. It’s soulful and catchy and should appeal to a wide variety of music fans. It’s clear-eyed genuine pop music at its best. Duffy’s voice will remind many of Amy Winehouse, but perhaps not as edgy or gritty as Ms Winehouse’s. There’s more of sweetness to Duffy’s vocals. The standout track is the hit “Mercy” which I first heard on Smallville and on VH1. It’s an instantly catchy, melodic treat, like much of the rest of the album.

Duffy’s album has some slower and …
