brave bold cover DVD Review: Batman The Brave And The Bold

Part of the first season of Cartoon Network`s The Brave and the Bold was released on DVD  a few weeks ago {Aug. 17, Warner Home Video}.   This show has had a major place in my heart since it came out.  For years I was somewhat grumpy about any new Batman cartoon, maintaining a stubborn loyalty to the WB Batman series.  But B&B broke through my resistance with its  Silver Age-drawn characters, witty dialogue, and eye-popping colors. Voice talents are well matched, too, featuring Diedrich Bader as Batman and James Arnold Taylor as Green Arrow, among others.

One of my favorite guest …

Greg Pic 11 300x300 Interview with Greetings From The Shore Writer/Director Greg Chwerchak

I recently had the chance to interview the co-writer and director of Greetings From The Shore. Greetings From The Shore is a heartfelt and funny movie I saw a few years back that is now available on DVD. Thanks to Greg for his time and thoughtful answers:

NERDSociety (NS): Greg, Tell our readers a little about yourself. How did you get into directing feature films ?

Greg Chwerchak (GC): I started in the industry as a writer, writing hundreds and hundreds of concepts for music videos. I grew up as a big comics geek, so to suddenly be creating ideas with …

Movie Review: Harry Brown

Movie Review: Harry Brown

harry brown poster Movie Review: Harry Brown

I was browsing through the blu-ray titles at my local rental store, and saw Harry Brown. It looked interesting, it’s Alfred from Batman, but this time, he’s suppose to be like Charles Bronson from Death Wish. I watched the film, and boy was I wrong! He’s nothing like Charles Bronson, because Charles Bronson wouldn’t run out of breath while chasing the unfortunate thugs in his neighborhood. This is the premise of Harry Brown, an old man seeking revenge. It’s a more realistic approach to films like Death Wish and Man on Fire.

Posters That Give Me Headache by Simon C Page

Posters That Give Me Headache by Simon C Page

Self-taught British graphic designer and illustrator, Simon C Page, has released three posters for his series “Hero And Villain.”   The concept of this artwork is to identify two characters.  The hero is really easy to spot but the bad guy is harder to find.   You’ll have to think outside the box to find the villains.

Batman looks cool but the bad guy wasn’t the one I was hoping for.  Love the colors though.

hobo Hobo With A Shotgun Violent Red Band Trailer

Rutger Hauer, the actor best known for playing the Replicant leader in Blade Runner is coming back with a vengeance.  This is a weird ass trailer that takes you for a ride:

Just like Machete, Hobo With A Shotgun started out as a “fake” trailer back in 2007 by Jason Eisner and attached to some Grindhouse prints. Eisner described how it became a movie, “This teaser was first created as a sizzle reel for producers and distributors. It was designed to give everyone an idea of what Hobo would look, sound and feel like. It got such a great reaction from …

Weekend Movie Review Roundup: Gore and Romance Edition

Weekend Movie Review Roundup: Gore and Romance Edition

The first weekend of September is a mix of action and romance at the movie theaters.  I’m looking forward to Robert Rodriguez’s Machete but just like the previous “grindhouse” films, it flop at the box office.  Drew Barrymore and the Mac guy aka Justin Long is in a long distance relationship in Going The Distance while George Clooney is in love in a small town while trying to assasinate people.  Let’s check out the reviews and see if any of them are worth paying the full admission.

tours New Star Tours 3D Has New Destinations

Disney has released a preview for the new Star Tours ride coming out in 2011.  The preview has the same cheesy theme from the old Star Tours “ad” that you see as you’re waiting to get on the ride.  I don’t mind that, can’t forget your roots.  Here’s the trailer:

So in the trailer, you see the Cloud City, Endor and Alderaan.  I doubt you’ll be visiting all of it because Alderaan gets blown up by the Death Star in New Hope.   There’s also rumors that it will include a pod-race from Episode 1.

The new Stars Tours will be in …

machete Machete Action Figure Released In October

So I was browsing bigbadtoystore.com when I came upon the Machete figure.  There’s no specific date but it’s scheduled to be released sometime in October and retails for $14.99.  From the picture, he seems to have two machetes and small knives on his vest that can’t be removed.  The movie comes out this Friday, 9/3/2010 and so far it’s been getting mixed reviews.

Either way, I’ll buy this figure just because it’s Danny Trejo.  This is the dude who played the rapist in Con Air, the voice of Umberto Robina in GTA: Vice City and one of Robert DeNiro’s crew in …

Movie Review: The Expendables

Movie Review: The Expendables

Expendables 1 Movie Review: The Expendables

The Expendables is a throwback to the mindless 80s big budget action movies that I grew up watching. Sly Stallone has assembled a massive group of action stars (past and present) and tossed them into a stew of macho ultraviolence. The Expendables delivers the goods and I have high hopes that the sequel will be even better. Stallone’s cast includes a magnetic Dolph Lundgren (as the requiste loose cannon), Jet Li, Jason Statham, Bruce Willis (in an amusing cameo with Ahnold himself), and Mickey Rourke as a weirdo tattoo artist who goes method about loving and losing women and gives an …
