The Alien Anthology is being released today and 20th Century Fox released the footage of Sigourney Weaver’s screen test.  As we all know, Weaver’s performance as Ripley broke new grounds in Hollywood.  Ripley was one of the first female characters to kick ass and this trend continued to horror movies such as Friday The 13th and Scream.

Here’s the trailer for the box set, now I want to buy this damn box set:

Here’s what the box set:

Michael Mann’s Next Project Could Be A Period Epic

mann Michael Mann’s Next Project Could Be A Period Epic

Everytime I hear Michael Mann’s name, I get excited. That’s because I’m a big fan of Last of the Mohicans and Heat. This time around, his next project could be a Period epic set in the world of Henry V. Or, he could go a different route and do another crime drama (Big Tuna) set in Chicago. But, wasn’t Public Enemies set in Chicago?

Either way, I’ll be happy but I’m hoping he would go for the Period epic, Agincourt. Here’s the synopsis from Deadline:

New Star Wars Trilogy In The Works

New Star Wars Trilogy In The Works

star wars picture New Star Wars Trilogy In The Works

The prequel trilogy sucked but George Lucas made so much money off the movies that he’s planning to do another installment in the Star Wars universe.  The speculation is that it won’t have the Skywalkers involved but instead focus on new Star Wars characters.  I’m going to take a wild guess and say it’ll be in 3-D!  Besides the new trilogy being planned, Lucas is planning to a make live action tv show, re-release the prequels in 3-D and then have a blu-ray release.

We all know Lucas made the prequels to attract the kids just in case their nerdy parents …

pinhead Hellraiser Movie News: He’s … back?

In August it was announced that there would be a new Hellraiser movie set for 2011 release.  It’s supposed to be an entirely new story and Pinhead’s in it, well, sort of.  Here’s an excerpt of a letter Doug Bradley, the original actor who played Pinhead, released to Dread Central at that time:

“…I have been approached just in this last week regarding a proposed new Hellraiser film. This is not the ‘remake’ which has been endlessly discussed for the last three years: with the working title Hellraiser: Revelations, it will be the ninth film in the series. I would …

LOTR Plush Toys Looks Pretty Damn Cool

LOTR Plush Toys Looks Pretty Damn Cool

I watched Lord Of The Rings (LOTR ) so many times on DVD that I got sick of it.

“Who cares, if they’re fighting big elephants”

“That Mine Of Moria scene was great, 5 viewings ago”

Then I bought the trilogy Blu-Ray cheap at GoHastings.com and I appreciate the movies again.  For some reason, having this movie in HD and lossless sound made it epic again.  Which leads me to my next point, I started looking for LOTR merchandise again.

I was browsing Thinkgeek.com and found these bad boys:

Weekend Movie Review Roundup: Freaky Camcorder Edition

paranormal activity 2 poster Weekend Movie Review Roundup: Freaky Camcorder Edition

2 big movies are coming out this weekend, Paranormal Activity 2 and Clint Eastwood’s HereAfter.  I was bored with the original Paranormal Activity but there’s plenty of buzz for the low budget movie.  HereAfter is getting a wide release this week but this one will probably flop.

Paranormal Activity 2 is getting a 72% rating at Rottentomatoes.  I thought Paramount releasing a crappy sequel but I’m probably wrong.  It seems to have enough scares and character development that the critics liked it.  Larsen On Film describes it as a great horror movie: “As a portrait of an American family under …

Marvel Characters In Tron Universe

Marvel Characters In Tron Universe

Marvel has released several comic covers that depicts the superheroes in the Tron universe.  What does Marvel have to do with Tron, you ask?  Well, Disney owns Tron and the sequel is coming out on December 17, 2010.  Disney also owns Marvel so that’s why Tron is being cross promoted with the comics.  I’m sure this is only the first partnership between the two companies.

Winters Bone DVD Review: Winter’s Bone (Sundance/Indie Spotlight)

On the surface, Winter’s Bone has a lot going for it. The performances are strong, the characters are interesting, and the setting is grim, stark, and compelling, yet the movie left me cold. It’s bleak and depressing, and after a while, quite boring. The fine acting deserves a mention though. Jennifer Lawrence is excellent as the lead Rae Dolly, a 17 year old living in extreme poverty in the rural Ozark Mountains. Her Dad has skipped on his bail and now the family home is up for grabs unless her father can be tracked down.

Winter’s Bone follows Rae as she …

Oceans Blu Ray Blu ray Review: Oceans (Disneynature)

Disneynature does it again with the hypnotic and visually stunning new nature documentary called Oceans. Last Earth Day, Disney released Earth, which was terrific, but was mostly footage from Planet Earth edited down to feature-length. Disneynature got Oceans from France and director Jacques Perrin. Perin made the justly beloved documentary Winged Migration and Oceans is a spectacular sight to behold.

Oceans is narrated in mostly unobtrusive fashion by Pierce Brosnan and takes the viewers on a fascinating journey under the sea to see all kinds of bizarre creatures along with some favorites (sharks, seals, cute baby sea turtles). The movie has …
