No doubt in honor of the Man of Steel DVD release, the guys from Screen Junkies who put out the Honest Trailers, spoofed the latest Superman movie with their usual biting wit and highly critical and discerning eye.  What I love about the Honest Trailers is that, yeah, okay they rip some of these films to shreds but they do it in a fun way, and make a lot of great points in the process.  Without further ado, here’s the Honest Trailer for Man of Steel.

One of the drawbacks of being such a fan of Asian cinema is knowing how fond these filmmakers are of infusing their stories with a touch of tragedy to make them more poignant. The original Thor was a film with great action, fantastic performances from most of the cast and the potential to be something truly special but squandered it fairly quickly in order to devolve into a romantic comedy with one of the most rushed and unbelievable romances and character arcs I’ve seen yet. Thankfully its sequel, Thor The Dark World, manages to capitalize on the originals potential but still suffers from some of the usual Marvel Studios weaknesses.

LiveLeak is posting footage from a LaserDisc someone reportedly purchased off Ebay for $699. If you’re not familiar with the LaderDisc, it was this very short-lived format that came out late 70’s/early 80’s. The video quality was said to surpass the VHS format of the time but it was huge, like the big vinyl records from back in the day, and you had to of course purchase the LaserDisc player, which it seemed like virtually no one had.

Hannibal is an excellent, intelligent serial killer series and a treat for horror and drama fans. Well-acted, cast, and shot, its one of the best new series on television. In a television landscape with many serial killer shows, Hannibal stands head and shoulders above the pack. The cast led by the brilliant Mads Mikkelsen as Dr Lector is among the best on television. Hugh Dancy is also good as the conflicted and tortured FBI agent Will Graham. Grant Gustin, better known as Sebastian from Glee, has just been cast as Barry Allen aka The Flash in the upcoming season of CW’s Arrow. Riddick is the fourth installment in the franchise starring Vin Diesel who plays; you guessed it, the titular space bad ass character of Richard B. Riddick. Now I never saw any of the previous films because frankly they didn’t really interest me so I went into this film with no expectations and completely blind with just some basic knowledge of the main character and the universe he inhabited. After watching this film I will definitely go back and watch all the previous ones as well as play the games because this film was really damn awesome.

Not too long ago, there was a financial analyst who came out with a report that comic to film adaptations were basically a bad investment. This was, of course, before the Avengers film came out.  But Marvel isn’t the only one finding success in bringing comic books to life. The Walking Dead TV series is arguably one of the best shows on today. Then there’s the big surprise that Arrow was picked up for another season. Although Oblivion took in $300 million at the box office (including international), it was released in the U.S. without much fanfare.  I remember seeing a couple of trailers for it and noticed it was playing at a drive in a couple of weeks after its release.  I checked it out and surprised by the entertainment value.  The last third of the movie is a bit anti climactic and a let down but everything before that was great.  I wondered who directed the movie because it had a slick look and the music was great.  The soundtrack reminded me of Tron: Legacy …
