Transformers: Cybertron; DVD Review!

Transformers: Cybertron; DVD Review!

NEW on DVD from SHOUT! Factory and Hasbro/Takara is Transformers: Cybertron, one of the largest installments of the post 80’s Transformers.

In Transformers: Cybertron, the Autobots are trying to find keys that will stop a black hole from swallowing up their home planet; all-the-while, the Decepticons are trying to get the keys for themselves in order to rule.

Many different characters join in on this story; however, Megatron becoming Galvatron is kind of cool. Starscream fans will get all they could ever want—however, all that is missing is the scene from the 80’s movie were Galvatron turns him to dust!…

The Purge: Anarchy–Movie Review!

The Purge: Anarchy–Movie Review!

Social/political commentary can be a tricky thing to explore in movies. Done with some skill, horror can be the perfect genre to explore it. They tend to “get away” with more within the safe confines of a genre movie. The first Purge movie was a terrific premise in search of a movie. It was an instant hit, while becoming almost universally hated by audiences who felt they were victims of an elaborate bait and switch. The Purge was basically a home invasion thriller with a cool, sci-fi premise used at times, as little more than window dressing. The Purge: Anarchy blessed …

Blu-ray Review – Legend Of Korra – Book Two: Spirits

Blu-ray Review – Legend Of Korra – Book Two: Spirits

korra1 Blu ray Review Legend Of Korra Book Two: Spirits

Korra is back for a second season as she battles spirits, politics and betrayal.  Pretty deep stuff for a Nickelodeon show.  Last Airbender got widely popular because of the great storytelling and this new chapter follow its tradition.  Instead of a male hero airbender, we have Korra.  She’s not as appealing as Aang but she’s feisty and it adds depth.  Book two’s title is “Spirits” and while it leads up to the spirit world later down the road, the main theme is family.  There’s foreshadowing going on and not everything is explained from the get go.  I like the show because …

LEGO Movie Blu-ray Review

LEGO Movie Blu-ray Review

June 17th  was the release date for the long awaited Blu-ray/DVD  of the LEGO movie (directed  by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller).  Viewers have the choice of the “Everything  is Awesome” edition or the smaller package containing the Blu-ray, DVD, and Ultraviolet discs.  I bought the second version for economic reasons, and it did not disappoint.

Story: When I saw this movie at the theater, I was expecting  an amusing look at some LEGO characters, but the film is so much more than that.  It combines fast-paced action with incredibly clever humor and a solid story.   Hero Emmet ( voiced by …

Who Should Play Joker?

Who Should Play Joker?

darkknightjoker Who Should Play Joker?

When Heath Ledger passed away, the comic book to film world lost someone who was, in my eyes at least, the most incredible version of Joker to date. Many thought that no one could ever surpass Ledger’s performance and many think that no one should even try. But with the new crop of DC films coming out, not to mention that Fox series “Gotham,” and the fact that Batman has been recast as an aging, world-weary type (didn’t Affleck play Daredevil with sort of that depressed, Charlie Brown shuffle also?), there have been rumblings that maybe it could happen, if

Transformers Animated: The Complete Series; DVD Review!

Transformers Animated: The Complete Series; DVD Review!

New on DVD from SHOUT! Factory and Hasbro is Transformers Animated: The Complete Series. Spanning 6 DVD’s holding 42 episodes of what I feel is the best version of Transformers lore since the original 80’s cartoon.

Transformers Animated has taken a lot of flak for being cartoony and almost childish—the exclusion of guns over melee and other gripes here and there. What people are missing is the beautiful HAND DRAWN artwork and animation, the interesting story that unfolds throughout the entire series and seeing their favorite characters depicted in a more unconventional way.

The stand out episode comes from Season …

Edge of Tomorrow Spoiler-free Review

Edge of Tomorrow Spoiler-free Review

EDGE OF TOMORROW 13 Edge of Tomorrow Spoiler free Review

I had several reasons not to want to like this film. First of all, on the surface, Edge of Tomorrow looked like it was just going to be another Tom Cruise delivery system.  I have seen Cruise play the same character in countless films over the years. Interview with a Vampire, A Few Good Men, Jerry Maguire, Eyes Wide Shut, Mission Impossible… All of his characters from these films are basically different moods of the same guy.  So, I honestly wasn’t too excited.  I mean, Oblivion is still being shown at least 5 times a week on cable.

I’m …

Attention Batman fans!

If you’re lucky enough to be in So Cal, Warner Brothers Studio is offering an exclusive Batman exhibit tour.  The 2 hour and 15 minute tour will showcase props, costumes and even vehicles from the Batman movies.  The tour is limited but WB never said when it would end.  The admission is pricey at $54 a pop.  It’s worth going if you’ve never been on a studio tour before but for me, I can skip it.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past, Movie Review (CCFMDS REMIX)!

X-Men: Days Of Future Past, Movie Review (CCFMDS REMIX)!

X-Men: Days of Future Past is an energetic blast of summer entertainment. Smart,
engaging, and filled with eye-popping action and a surprisingly emotional story,
it’s a superhero movie done right. An all-star cast along with some clever
action and a few nifty new twists makes X-Men the most enjoyable superhero movie
of 2014 so far.

Wolverine (a buff, restrained Hugh Jackman) must go back in time to prevent
Raven/Mystique (alluring mega-star Jennifer Lawrence) from killing mutant-hating
dwarf Bolliver Traak. Her actions bring about the rise of the sentinels and the end
of mankind/mutant kind. The future is one of those desolate …

Maleficent and Disney witches

Maleficent and Disney witches

On May 30,Disney Studios` live-action Maleficent will be released.   Angelina Jolie plays the titular character, a beautiful but apparently evil witch who is the enemy of the Sleeping Beauty character.   Current trailers and publicity  indicate that the film will be a re-imagining of the SB fairy tale from Maleficent`s point of view.   Of course, M was preceded by quite a few other Disney witches, including the 1959 animated version of herself.  Here`s a look at some of these fashionable but black-hearted ladies.

Evil Queen 1 Maleficent and Disney witches
