My Big Fat Summer Movie Preview Part 1 (May-July)

darkknight galleryburningposter My Big Fat Summer Movie Preview Part 1 (May July)

I am going to run down (by order of date), the films I think will be most worthwhile for everyone to spend their hard-earned bucks on at your local, overpriced multiplex, because I roll like that.  It’s that time of year again kids, strap in, practice your sneer (Jonathan Rhys Meyers style) because it’s time to escape the heat and pay 4 bucks for a watered-down Coke……..edgy.

May 2nd

Iron Man-  Robert Downey, Jr is back in a big way and this looks like a fun popcorn summer action flick.  At the very least, it will be better than Daredevil.…

Film Review: Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay

Film Review: Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay

haroldandkumar2 galleryteaser Film Review: Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay

The eagerly awaited and crudely funny Harold and Kumar sequel is amiable, but it’s also nowhere near as fresh or funny a movie as the original.  The law of diminishing returns applies to Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay.  It feels mostly like a retread of the first film, with more overtly political jokes, while the once-fresh racial humor is very hit and miss here.

Our favorite stoners get into trouble on their flight to Amsterdam and wind up on the run from the Department of Homeland Security (led by the very funny, moronic lead agent played by Rob …

BOLL vs BAY!!! Sunday! Sunday! Sunday!!

BOLL vs BAY!!! Sunday! Sunday! Sunday!!

There’s an online petition that wishes for Uwe Boll to stop making movies.
Stop Dr. Uwe Boll

Dr. Boll responds with this video you see here

He goes out to call Michael Bay retarded and makes fun that Eli Roth does the same shit over and over.

Michael Bay responded on his Message Board pretty much saying Boll’s like a little kid trying to get attention by yelling, jumping up and down.

The question is, will you be watching Postal when it comes out in theatres?  I know I will XD…

DVD Review: Southland Tales

DVD Review: Southland Tales

southlandtales bigposter DVD Review: Southland Tales

Southland Tales starts with an incoherent and mumbling ten minute narration sequence voiced by pop singer Justin Timberlake.  He tells us of the world after a nuclear explosion run by right wing crazies dressed like Twin Peaks extras while mumbling “this is how the world ends” over and over.  I figured that at that point the film had nowhere to go but up, but I was sorely mistaken.  Southland Tales is one of the worst films ever made.  A muddled political satire mixed with pretentious and numbing speeches and a “plot” that goes nowhere slowly.  This thing moves like molasses …

P11028098 HD DVD Reviews Clearance Edition

With HD DVD getting its ass kicked by Blu-Ray, some stores are having fire sales. One store in particular is Hollywood Video, selling their HD DVD’s for about $10 a piece or if you have a coupon 2/$15. So I went on an HD DVD binge and bought 6 movies, even ones I didn’t really like at the theatre. Yes, addiction is bad for you. Here we go:

1) Harry Potter and the Order of The Phoenix

Movie Rating: B +
This was the first time I saw it. Didn’t care much for the previous four but enjoyed this one. We …

Film Review: Doomsday

Film Review: Doomsday

 doomsday galleryposter Film Review: Doomsday

Doomsday is something of a misunderstood gem.  It had a decent advertising budget (judging from the amount of television spots I’ve seen) but it didn’t have much help from the indifferent studio, who seemed resigned to its failure at the US box office.  That’s really a shame because people are missing a nasty, gory, and ultra-violent throwback to past B-movies, delivered with breakneck pacing and lots of style by director Neil Marshall, rightly celebrated for his previous two films, Dog Soldiers and The Descent.  Doomsday is assembled from parts of other films, a dash of 28 Days Later and Resident …

DVD Review: Into the Wild

DVD Review: Into the Wild

51 J5mxi6UL. SS500 DVD Review: Into the Wild

Into the Wild is a good (but flawed) film written and directed by Sean Penn and based on real events. The acting, cinematography, and writing are all first-rate. The film is gorgeous to look at and, despite some pacing problems, becomes a genuine film that deeply affects viewers. It can be looked at simply as a film about the harshness and nature through the eyes of a bright young man coming of age. His motivations remain up for debate, but his journey is both inspiring and dangerous, a harsh reminder of how little we truly understand about nature.

Into the Wild …

God save the PS3!

God save the PS3!

royal queen God save the PS3!

Lately, Sony has been on a good running streak.  With the biggest news coming from the death of HD DVD (the Blu-ray camp is doing back flips), to the NPD Groups January Game Sales showing the PS3 catching up with Wii and the Xbox 360 in last place.

Later this year, the highly anticipated game Metal Gear Solid 4 will be available on the PS3 exclusively.  An MGS4 bundle will also be released that comes with the game, the 80 gig PS3 console, and a DualShock 3 (rumble finally!!).

Can the PS3 triumph over the Wii and truly be this years …

51PLJQvN DL. SS500 DVD Review: The Jane Austen Book Club

The Jane Austen Book Club is an entertaining and interesting film, commonly termed a “chick flick”. This film proves though, that the term does not have to be a derogatory one. The film is well-made and well-acted. This is a film made for an audience of mostly women, but I think guys can enjoy the film as well. All credit should go to the excellent ensemble cast of strong and likable female characters. The standouts in the cast include Maria Bello (as a lonely woman who enjoys the company of pets over people), Emily Blunt, and Amy Brenneman (from the popular …

 10s Quick Oscar Predictions

Evil freak, Javier Bardem with the scariest haircut in movie history, from No Country for Old Men.

The Academy Awards air on Sunday night and I wanted to make my predictions about the winners in each of the major categories:

Best Visual Effects:  Transformers will win, the effects were extremely impressive.

Best Animated Feature:  Ratatouile will win…..even though I’d like to see an upset and have Persepolis win.

Best Documentary:  The acclaimed No End in Sight will win…..although the fascinating documentary about Donkey Kong and the eternal struggle between good and evil called The King of Kong, should have been nominated.…
