Based on Clive Barker’ short story, the film is about a photographer criticized for not putting himself in danger when on assignment. To prove his critics wrong, he decides to go out into a subway train late at night to take pictures. To make things short, the film includes a butcher, an obsession, and a missing girl. DVD Review: Bigger, Stronger, Faster

biggerstrongerfaster galleryposter DVD Review: Bigger, Stronger, Faster

Bigger, Stronger, Faster is the name of the fascinating, funny, and endlessly entertaining documentary about the steroid culture in the United States, and specifically in the sports world.  Writer/director Christopher Bell (a likable meathead, a refreshing change from the usual intellectual blowhards of the documentary world) grew up in the 1980s (much like yours truly), and he idolized Sly, Ahnold, and especially Hulk Hogan. …

Realistic Joker (Ledger) Headsculpt / Dark Knight Action Figure

Realistic Joker (Ledger) Headsculpt / Dark Knight Action Figure

Below are pictures of a 1/6th (12 inches) scale action figure by Hot Toys. The prototype version was painted by an artist named JC Hong. His skills are remarkable as he makes the Joker come to life. Of course, the final product does not look anything like Hong’s version, but Hot Toys did try to reproduce Hong’s painting as much as possible.

“I believe whatever doesn’t kill you simply makes you… stranger. ”

Hot Toys aren’t cheap as their figures range from about $100 – $175. JC Hong is the guy to make sure the paint jobs are top notch on …

Film Review: Religulous

Film Review: Religulous

religulous galleryposter Film Review: Religulous

Bill Maher’s old television series Politically Incorrect was one of my favorite series and it gave a great platform to Chris Rock and Maher himself.  It was always entertaining and after it was taken off the air due to Maher’s controversial statements (nice job caving in to pressure, ABC), a revamped version called Real Time With Bill Maher started showing on HBO.  Maher started as a stand-up comic and there was always an anti-religion slant to his material.  This really helps viewers going into Religulous, you won’t be going in blind and Maher doesn’t even pretend to be fair and balanced.  …

Early DVD Review: The New World Extended Cut

Early DVD Review: The New World Extended Cut

51nlL%2Bwd8XL. SS500 Early DVD Review: The New World Extended Cut

The theatrical version of The New World was near perfect. It was visually stunning and filled with amazing music and some terrific performances. Director Terrance Malick reportedly cut out over 30 minutes for theatrical release. That cut was released on DVD, and now for the first time we have his original version of the film. This extended version of The New World adds a lot of new footage, but most of the new footage was best left on the cutting room floor by Malick. It turns out he was right to shorten The New World considerably. What was once an ethereal …

DVD Review: RL Stine’s Mostly Ghostly

51OwetvBhBL. SS500 DVD Review: RL Stines Mostly Ghostly

RL Stine is an extremely popular author for kids and tweens, having written countless best-sellers. Stine’s “Goosebumps” series of books was turned into a successful television series; there are also a few direct to DVD films based on his books. The first came out last year and starred Emily Osment (from “Hannah Montana”) and Tobin Bell (from the “Saw” films, of all places) and it was actually quite entertaining. It was called “The Haunting Hour” and for what it was, it was well-made and entertaining.

Alas, Stine’s new feature called Mostly Ghostly is slow-paced and devoid of an interesting storyline. It …

Iron Man Blu-ray Defective?

Iron Man Blu-ray Defective?

ironman blu ray Iron Man Blu ray Defective?

The movie just got released today on DVD and Blu-ray.  I purchased the Blu-ray format.  Popped this little baby in my PS3 when I arrived home.  Ok, I see an image of Tony Stark’s artificial heart loading on my TV.  Ok, it’s installing something, just like my Transformers Blu-ray.   Now I checked back to see it’s still loading.  I restarted it to see if would work, but no dice.  It was still loading/installing.  Why is it taking so long? Is my PS3 creating an Iron Man suit in there?

No, but I found out that the server was busy, with all …

1/6th Scale Iron-Man

1/6th Scale Iron-Man

Hot Toys will release 3 Iron-man figures. At about $175 a piece, it would be hard for me to get all three. Now, if I was to get only one, which one should I get? They all look great, and pretty much identical to the film. These figs are 12″ tall, so they are pretty big. Robert Downey’s headsculpt is also included, and he looks pretty realistic.

My first choice is this guy, the ghetto version of Iron-man. I like the bulky look.

My second choice is this one. The metallic, unpainted version. Aka Mark II

So there it was, my Batman: Gotham Knight Blu-ray, alone on a small street in Orange County.  I stopped my car to go pick it up.  Pieces were everywhere.  I went straight for the disc to see if it was still intact.  By the luck of the gods, Batman came out in one piece.  But…the same can’t be said about the cover.  Jump for the full details and pics of the surviving pieces.…
