Wanted is a hardcore, ultra-violent action flick.  It’s loud and extremely stylish.  It’s hard to on some level to defend a film so in love with violence and bullets, so there’s no reason to even try to do so.  The 2 DVD set boasts some nifty extras as well.  The cast members are all good (Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman are especially well cast)but the real star of the film is Russian director Timur Bekmambetov.  The director of the cult Russian hits Night Watch and Day Watch, he will have a long career in Hollywood doing big budget action films.

51HzBYDuczL. SS400 December DVD Picks

Finally, a busy month for DVDs.  Just in time for your Christmas shopping, I give you the best DVD releases for the month of December, including the most-anticipated DVD release of the year……you know the film……and here…..we……go !

December 2nd

Prince Caspian- The vastly underrated Narnia sequel did just OK business in the US while doing gangbusters overseas.  The mixed reviews were mind-bogging to me as this violent and action-packed sequel was one of the summer’s best blockbuster releases.

Wanted- The best action film in many years (since probably Timur’s film Day Watch) comes to DVD with a great cast (Angelina …

41iY4kBH73L. SS500 Film Review: Twilight

Twilight is the highly-anticipated film adaption of Stephenie Meyer’s runaway bestseller Twilight.  Meyer has tapped directly into the psyche of teenage girls everywhere with her Romeo Meets Juliet tale of a brooding undead vampire named Edward Cullen and his brooding (there’s a lot of that going around in the film) emo goth girlfriend Bella.  The series of books is hugely popular and the first in the series has been effectively turned into a feature-length film.  Twilight has a lot of problems with pacing and plotting but its a sincere, entertaining film that should appeal both to fans of teen soaps and …

Vintage Movie Review: From Dusk till Dawn

In this film, Rodriguez teams up with his buddy Quentin Tarantino. You know what that means. A lot of artistic violence and very well textured script writing. This film is proof that low-budget does not equal to shitty movies. Uwe Boll, you need to watch some Rodriguez flicks. The movie follows two brothers running from the law, only to end up in a hellish bar, full of naked chicks, called the Titty Twister. Man, I love that name.

This film captivated me mostly because of its dialogue. Clooney and Tarantino are great at playing 2 crazy brothers. Clooney, being the older …

Film Review: Quantum of Solace

I’m really enjoying the new reboot of the James Bond franchise.  I was never a huge Bond fan.  Most of the films were bland and repetitive.  Sean Connery was clearly the best Bond.  He was suave and just a lot of fun.  After the initial excellent Bond films I really lost interest in the series.  Pierce Brosnan (not a bad actor) did what was required of the role, but nothing more.  Goldeneye was a rousing start with the lovely Famke Jansen (crushing men between her thighs….what’s not to love), but his series of films quickly grew as rotten as Halle Berry’s …

tinkebell Movie Review: Walt Disney’s Tinker Bell

Tinker Bell came into my childhood when I first watched Disney’s Peter Pan. I wasn’t a fan of her because she acted like a little brat. In the cartoon, she has a thing for Peter and would get mad when Peter and Wendy were together. I was later introduced to Tink again in the live action movie “Hook.” In this version, she has the same feisty personality and was played by Julia Roberts. Her love for Peter was more apparent when she uses her magic to become as big as Peter. That’s a big Tink! Click on the link for the …

DVD Review: Confessions of a Pit Fighter

51tGb8GNF5L. SS500 DVD Review: Confessions of a Pit Fighter

After languishing on the shelf since 2005, the straight-to-DVD Confessions Of A Pit Fighter is easily one of the worst films of the year. Simply, the film is just awful. A cast of real-life fighters (including former MMA champ Quinton Rampage  Jackson) and a few professional actors (who should have known better) make up the cast of this dreadful film. The perpetually sneering Armand Assante sneers and walks through his clichéd villain role half asleep (and sneering). John Savage is the other decent actor in the cast who plays a nasty parole officer. The rest of the cast includes the hideous …

Reaper is a very good televison series.  The show is well-acted, consistently amusing, and extremely well-written.  Reaper debuted last year on The CW Network and quickly established itself as one of the best series on television.  The show was highlighted by Ray Wise’s wonderful, scene-stealing turn as The Devil.  Wise plays the Devil with just the right amount of gleeful smarmy and a touch of the menace necessary to the character, but mostly, he’s just hilarious.  The whole cast is extremely good and the show actually improved after it returned post-writers strike.  It was one of the rare shows to do …

role models Movie Review: Role Models

I wasn’t expecting too much of this movie when I saw the previews about two grown men having to take care of little kids with the title of “Role Models.”  The AMC theatre we were in had a Power 106 promotion.  It was funny to see the Power 106 guys competing with the AMC workers selling ice cream.  It was a pretty lively crowd.  Power 106 had little girls come up on stage to compete and do sexy dances.  I don’t know about you, but this just feels wrong.  Plus the movie we’re watching is rated R!

I’d also like to …
