Almost 2 years later and Michael Bay graces us with another Transformers movie. Over at Empire, they have new pics up of Soundwave and Bumblebee in toy form. Bumblebee is still a Camaro but with upgrades. But we don’t really care about that now do we?…
On the heels of the popular Ultimate Avengers animated features comes HULK VS. A straight to DVD animated smackdown involving HULK in two separate features. The two features are Hulk VS Wolverine and Hulk VS Thor. Both have their strong points, but Hulk VS Wolverine is better because its sheer bloody action and violence. This is the Wolverine fans have been longing to see from the comics brought to life. The 36 minute feature is perfectly paced and stunning in the amount of blood and gore. It’s similar to more adult anime features. The second feature, Hulk VS Thor is more …
Vito Corleone, one of the most recognizable characters in American cinema, will be made into an action figure by Hot Toys. The press photos are up, but the figure won’t come out until 2nd quarter of this year. The Godfather is one of my favorite movies of all time, and based on these photos, this figure looks amazing.…
The nominations have been announced today for the 81st Annual Academy Awards and the Oscar buzz has officially started. Yes, I have to really check out Slumdog Millionaire because I keep hearing good things about that movie, plus it received 10 nominations. I’m surprised to see that The Curious Case of Benjamin Button received 13 nominations. The special effects and acting were fine, but the story just dragged on for 3 hours, which you can read my full review here. Was Benjamin Button a drag for you?
Well I’m happy to hear that The Dark Knight received 8 nominations including …
Watching Mall Cop because My Bloody Valentine 3D is sold out ended up being a very bad choice. Just watching the first couple of minutes of Mall Cops and one can tell that this movie was going downhill pretty fast. I don’t have a problem with ridiculously absurd storylines, but this one was reaching it. You have a segway joke that goes on forever, a romantic scene that screams out cheese, a hostage takeover at a mall, and a mall security guard disposing of parkour runners one by one.…
The Road Killers is a nasty little B-movie gem that deserves to get a wider audience than it did when it was first released. It was released in 1994 basically straight to video and DVD and at the time, it didn’t get much more than a cult following, but the film has is exceedingly well cast. At the time, the cast wasn’t particularly well known with the exception of Christopher Lambert as the lead, but its the supporting players that make the film so noteworthy. The Road Killers is a real sleeper and one of the best discoveries in quite some …
Remaking Asian films (especially horror films) has become an alarming trend. Over the last few years one crappy film after the next pops up being remade from its original form. Some of the original Asian films weren’t exactly classics, but at least they were stylish and entertaining. If only the same thing could be said of their American counterparts. The trend started when the remake of the Asian smash horror film called Ringu opened in the United States as The Ring. The Ring was a slickly made and entertaining film but it started a disastrous trend that is with us to …
The futuristic sci-fi drama Babylon A.D. was a total flop in theatres. It was besieged by bad buzz (some of it from the film’s own director) and received horrible reviews, but I think it’s underrated. It was reported that director Mathieu Kossivitz’s original version was cut by 70 minutes to get down to a theatrical runtime of 93 minutes. The result was said to be incoherent and a total mess. The DVD version runs around 10 minutes longer and was fairly cohesive and never boring. The production values are top-notch and visually the film is often stunning.
Babylon A.D takes place …
2008 was a pretty good year us nerds. More comic books were turned into movies and for the most part, they were pretty good. The high def war finally ended with Blu-ray knocking out HD and consumers finally had the confidence to go Blu. Last but not least, video games are more popular than ever. Here’s our look at the best and worst of ’08.…
