The Midnight Meat Train was dumped into a few cheap seat theatres by Lions Gate Studios.  It deserved a better fate.  It’s a mixed bag, but its extremely stylish and well-made.  The film is a visually stunning and gory horror flick.  The film’s real star is acclaimed Japanese filmmaker Ryuhei Kitamura, who directed the cult films Versus and Azumi.  The Midnight Meat Train marks his American debut.  It’s based on a short story from horror maestro Clive Barker.  The film looks great and is an exciting ride almost from start to finish.

I was really into cyberpunk movies back in the 90s, so that’s where I would hear Peter Gabriel’s music. The first time was in Virtuosity in 1995. The name of the song was “Party Man,” and it was a fitting song after the climax of the movie. The next time I would hear him again was in The Fifth Element in 1997. His song “Little Light of Love” was playing at the end credits and it was a nice song to compliment the techno opera song performed by that weird blue alien diva.

Everyone probably has a favorite Samuel L. Jackson film.  From the gritty Jungle Fever to the underrated Unbreakable, to the Star Wars prequels, Jackson has had an interesting and varied career.  As of late though, he’s been taking one money grab after the next.  Starring in such schlock as the laughable Snakes on a Plane and the two films being reviewed here.  My personal favorite Sam Jackson film is the underrated southern gothic mystery, Eve’s Bayou (sorry, Pulp Fiction fans).  Directed with great skill by Kasi Lemmons, the film flew a bit under the radar despite some terrific reviews.  I hold …

On the surface, Sex Drive looks like a run of the mill teen sex comedy, and it many ways it really is.  The plotting (stolen right from Eurotrip/Road Trip) is nothing special, and even some of the characters are based on other characters from other teen sex comedies ranging from American Pie (the horny and phony sidekick Finch who gets all the girls) to Weird Science, but Sex Drive has something so many other comedies are lacking these days, big laughs.  Sex Drive makes you laugh your ass off.  It’s vulgar (sometimes sickeningly so) but at its core there’s a heart …

Tales from The Darkside: The First Season contains all 24 first season episodes of the syndicated series on 3 DVDs.  The very low budget horror anthology has its share of lame duds, but most of the episodes are entertaining.  Fans of this kind of format should enjoy the set a great deal.

Fanboy is a term used for hardcore fans, usually for movie buffs and video game junkies.  In the movie fanboy, we are introduced to four Star Wars’ nerds, Windows(Jay Baruchel), Eric(Sam Huntington), Linus(Chris Marquette), Hutch(Dan Fogler).  The gang decides to go on a cross country trip to Lucas Ranch so they can watch Phantom Menace before anyone else.  Along the way, the cute but underused Zoe(Kristen Bell) decides to join them on their wild adventure.

Nothing much to say here except that Hot Toys is releasing a Terminator factory diorama. Honestly, it looks a bit ridiculous, and if that T700 is brand new, why is it so dirty already? This figure looks too plasticky, and the paint job doesn’t look that great. The T700 doesn’t even look metallic.

Here are some more pics so you guys can judge for yourselves. I believe that the estimated release date is April 2009, if anybody even cares. I assume that this will run for $180 just like the other movie lines that Hot Toys released.

I’ve been jamming to this in my car 24/7!

It’s been a couple of days since the leaked audio of Christian Bale flipping out at the DP, during the shooting of Terminator: Salvation. I have to say that it’s really sad to see Batman get mad like this. There was a saying in The Dark Knight, “You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.”

It looked playful and I loved the way the insects worked as a team to get the Coke bottle from a picnic.  Reminded me of one of my favorite games of all time, Pikmin.  It usually it pisses me off when companies copy concepts from other products but this one was done so well that I’m giving it a pass.
