The State DVD Review: MTVs The State The Complete Series

The State was the nickname (and series title) for 11 incredibly talented members of a comedy troupe who had a series on MTV in the early 1990s. The show was extremely funny and spawned a huge cult following. Many of the members of the series have gone onto start on shows like Reno 911 and movies like the very funny Wet Hot American Summer. Michael Ian Black and Ken Marino recently played a gay couple on the CW series Reaper for a few episodes and nearly stole the series away from its stars. All 4 seasons are included along with an …

Knowing DVD Review: Knowing

Knowing was a box office flop and has a bad reputation, much like many of Nic Cage’s recent movies. Unlike his other recent movies though, Knowing isn’t deserving of its poor word of mouth. Knowing was ignored upon release and despite a few very good reviews (Roger Ebert loved it), it barely made a dent at the box office, and most of the reviews were negative. Knowing is a wildly entertaining sci fi flick with shades of X-Files and War of the Worlds. The effects are top-notch and there are a few truly harrowing scenes of disaster, directed with great intensity …

Vintage Toy Of The Week: Masters Of The Universe!

Vintage Toy Of The Week: Masters Of The Universe!

In 1981 Masters of the Universe came out in the form of action figures with limited articulation and a mini comic book.  Also included were their trademark weapons and armorMattel had used the same molds for just about every figure with differences such as the head and color of the body and outfit.  The armor was different for just about all of the figures and in some instances the hands and feet.

The legs were attached with a thick rubberband, and the arms were static with just the ability to rotate 360 degrees.  The head of most figures …

John Spartan Faces the Public Enemies

John Spartan Faces the Public Enemies

Johnny Depp Dillinger Public Enemy John Spartan Faces the Public Enemies

Johnny Dillinger (Johnny Depp) was infamous back in the 1930’s. This man robbed many banks and likes to escape from jail. He sees a girl he likes and whoos her and they become an item. These are all the things that Johnny likes to do, except, Michael Mann somehow was able to make these things not interesting and drawn out. You won’t find any inkling of what made Johnny Dillinger so great other than that he’s the leader. It’s all business.

And that is my main problem with Michael Mann’s Public Enemies. You never really get to see the other …

Movie Review: Public Enemies

Public Enemies is about the famed 1930’s bank robber, John Dilinger (Johnny Depp).  You can definitely tell it’s directed by Michael Mann (Miami Vice, Heat): realistic gunfights (from the awesome sound to the way they carry their weapons), stylish characters and a  love story.  I was worried about Mann shooting digitally on a period flick and I was really surprised how much I enjoyed it.  It added a bit of realism to the movie.  Besides seeing what looked like a present day el train, the rest of the production value was great.  Mann built a world that was believable and …

 Classic Film Review: American Pop!

In 1980 an amazing adult animated movie called American Pop came out for the public to experience. Directed by, Ralph Bakshi whose film Fritz The Cat was given an “X” rating in the 70’s.  Bakshi used actors to play the character to then animate over them giving the look and emotion of the cartoons coming to life.

American Pop brings the viewer into a world of pop culture–following a family of musicians through 4 generations. Starting with Zalmie who immigrated to New York and began in Vaudeville. Bennie his son whom was a genius pianist. Bennie’s son, Tony who …

Transformers 2 Movie Review (CCFMDS): Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen IMAX Experience Review

Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen shares a lot of the same positives and negatives of the first movie. It’s an overblown and overlong action spectacle that pulverizes the audience into submission, while somehow managing to be a decent and entertaining motion picture. Michael Bay’s brand of slo-mo mayhem looks amazing on the IMAX screen and the movie is often overwhelming and exciting, till the last 30 minutes when it just becomes exhausting. The novelty of the first movie is no more and Bay realizes this, giving fans exactly what they want. More robots smashing into each other like super-size rock-em sock-em …

Movie Review: Transformers 2 (by Mongoose)
The best part of the movie.

This is the third review of this movie from this site, but I haven’t read the other reviews, so this review is totally independent. I won’t write my review in a classical way, instead, I’ll keep it short and list down the pros and cons.

Pros:

– Megan Fox in slow motion!
– Still an entertaining movie, but lacks emotion.
– The different locations that this movie takes its viewers.
– A great movie, if you’re 12 years old.

Cons:

– The damn parents are annoying as hell, they were too involved in the movie.…

Watchmen: Director’s Cut Coming to Theaters

Watchmen: Director’s Cut Coming to Theaters

watchmen002 300x187 Watchmen: Director’s Cut Coming to Theaters

Sweet, an uncut version of an already long Watchmen is coming to select theatres the weekend before Comic-Con in Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, and Minneapolis.

This is some great news for for fans who lives near these cities. Luckily I enjoyed the movie, so I’m curious to see the director’s cut. Hopefully it doesn’t drag too long like the theatrical cut. Wait a sec, if the director’s cut is also coming out in theatres, it’s also considered a theatrical cut (I just gone cross-eyed).

Cricket’s Movie Review: Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen

Cricket’s Movie Review: Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen

transformers revenge of the fallen poster 2 Crickets Movie Review: Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen

This movie was a big disappointment.  The story was all over the place and there were no real highlights.  I’m not going to talk about the plot because it’s not worth mentioning.  Remember how the first movie had some cool moments:  Scorponok battle, Prime doing a 180, Starscream taking out the military planes.  “Revenge” doesn’t even come close to scenes like that.  Michael Bay, the director, decided to super size the sequel.  More robots, more useless human characters, more corny jokes and more action.  For the audience, more means less.  Everything is so over the top that …
