Adventureland DVD Review: Adventureland

Adventureland is an affectionately written and directed movie from Greg Mottola, who previously bought us the smash hit Superbad. Adventureland is more leisurely paced and sentimental than Superbad, but still has a few poop and vomit jokes to please the core audience. Less raunchy than many of its teen comedy ilk, but not very funny, Adventureland is sort of an amiable mess, if not a disaster.

Adventureland is about a young adult named James Brennan (the talented star of The Squid and the Whale) who has to forgo his dream of grad school and get a crappy summer job at a …

Recap: James Cameron’s Avatar 15 Minute Preview

avatarmoviegame4 Recap: James Camerons Avatar 15 Minute Preview

I went to an IMAX preview screening of Avatar at Long Beach Edwards 26.  For those that doesn’t know about Avatar:  It’s a sci-fi flick combining  CG, 3-d effects and real actors.  The feedback for the regular trailer was mixed.  Some were disappointed how the creatures looked too much like Thundercats, while some people were excited to see the crazy battle scenes.  For me, I’m on the latter.  James Cameron is one of my favorite directors and I have faith that when everything is said and done, Avatar will be an awesome movie.

I got to the theater 15 minutes before …

Merlin DVD Review: Merlin and the Book of Beasts

Merlin and the Book of Beasts is a typical Sci-Fi Channel original movie. It has awful acting, cheap-looking production design, and some of the worst CG effects viewers will ever see. Merlin has been an enduring legend and there are many notable incarnations worth checking out. The latest is a series from The BBC called Merlin, and is something of a new spin on the legend, taking its cues from the popular Smallville series. It’s bright and entertaining, unlike the trainwreck of a movie reviewed here.

Merlin and the Book of Beasts wants to show us the “dark side” of a …

DVD Review: Doctor Who: Planet Of The Dead!

From BBC Video comes the 60 minute Easter Special of Doctor Who entitled Planet of the Dead. After 4 seasons of the decades old series, the BBC is releasing a few single episode videos which are aired on BBC America and of course in England. These features are being shown to lead up to the reboot of the series that will feature the “regeneration” of David Tennant’s Doctor.

Starring: David Tennant the 10th Doctor and Michelle Ryan from the short-lived “Bionic Woman”; Planet of the Dead brings The Doctor and a bus full of passengers to a desert world where …

green lantern first flight Movie Review: Green Lantern: First Flight

I’ve never really caught on to the Green Lantern fandom. I was hoping to become a fan, but after watching Green Lantern: First Flight, I can safely say that I won’t be jumping on the bandwagon anytime soon. Maybe Ryan Reynolds’s Green Lantern can covert me?

Green Lantern: First Flight is the fifth original animated movie by Warner Premiere and Warner Animation and is about a pilot named Hal Jordan who finds a dying alien who has a “power” ring. He gets the ring and from then on becomes the most powerful man in the world. Wait, I mean UNIVERSE!

I …

district 9 bench ad Movie Review: District 9

District 9 had a lot of cool trailers but I still wasn’t sold on it.  I’ve seen enough alien movies that were quite boring.   Sure, Peter Jackson produced the movie but his last movie, King Kong was just average.  The movie had some creative marketing including ads on bus stop with warning signs against the aliens and videos that looked like real news footage.

Synopsis from IMDB.com: An extraterrestrial race forced to live in slum-like conditions on Earth suddenly find a kindred spirit in a government agent that is exposed to their biotechnology.

First time full-length director Neill Blomkamp, has …

500 Days of Summer Movie Review: (500) Days of Summer

(500) Days of Summer could have turned out to be just another cutesy, hipster Indie pop movie, but it’s so much more than that. By turning cliches of romantic comedies on their ear, and by speaking with honesty and integrity about dating and finding love in modern America, it becomes something much more profound. Creative, funny, and touching, (500) Days of Summer is one of the best movies of the year so far. The stars (Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel) are perfectly matched and have amazing chemistry and charisma. JGL is one of the finest young actors in Hollywood today and …

Bow to your Sensei! Bow to your Sensei!

Ah yes, now I know what the big fuzz is all about. Up until a day ago, I’ve never seen Karate Kid in its entirety, only certain scenes when I’m flipping through my channels. Man, I was missing out on one of the greatest fighting movie of all time. I was bored, so I decided to browse Netflix’s “Watch Instantly” section, and up came Karate Kid.

The lovely Cobra Kai crew, Johnny is the best!

Karate Kid is a classic because the story is simple, but effective. The plot revolves around a high …

Wonder Woman Animated Movie Poster Movie Review: Wonder Woman Animated Original Movie

I’m only familiar with Wonder Woman thanks to her being a part of the Justice League and various artworks of her HOTNESS! She is the goddess of DC, with her bondage lasso, sexy one-piece armor, lovely long black hair, and “a nice rack.” I finally get to see the sexy Amazonian in her first feature length film.

Wonder Woman, directed by Lauren Montgomery, is the fourth DC Universe Original Animated Movie by Warner Premiere and Warner Bros. Animation after Superman: Doomsday, Justice League: The New Frontier, and Batman: Gotham Knight. Wonder Woman is my favorite by far.

Wonder Woman starts off …

Let’s get this over with. Most of us knew this movie wasn’t the second coming to cure cancer, bring peace to the Middle East, or bring harmony to inmates in the Chino prison riot. James Wong made a cool horror flick called Final Destination, but everything went downhill from there.

Now we have Dragonball Evolution. It’s not as craptastic as Street Fighter or Batman and Robin, but it was a fun little diversion. If you’re looking for cheesy bad entertainment, then you’ve got the right movie.

Dragonball Evolution follows the story of Goku on a journey to find the Dragon Balls …
