Showgirls starts off with Nomi Malone (Elizabeth Berkley) making her way to Las Vegas. The unintentional comedy starts as she hitch-hikes, and picked up by an Elvis look-alike. She gets to Las Vegas, and realizes that everybody is as selfish as a 3-year old with a candy bar. She meets the right people, and finds herself in one of the biggest shows in Vegas.
When this movie first came out, I remembered the buzz due to its NC-17 rating. To top it off, it stars one of TVs most beloved characters, Jessie (Elizabeth Berkley) from Save …
Not to be confused with James Cameron’s Avatar, Avatar: The Last Airbender is a cartoon from Nickelodeon that came out in 2005. The story is about the Fire Nation waging war with the three other nations: Water, Earth and Air. With the world in turmoil, only a 12 year old Avatar monk named Aang has a chance of defeating the Fire nation and bring back peace to the land. The story sounds generic, even similar to Episode 1 but this is one of the best cartoon I’ve seen. The show blends drama, comedy and action smoothly with entertaining stories. I always …
The A-Team was one of my favorite television series of the 1980’s. It was good, clean fun. Lots of action and easy to follow stories and some cool acting. I grew up on The A-Team and Knight Rider and while the reboot recent series of Knight Rider was feces, the new A-Team movie was surprisingly good. It’s well-cast and full of comedy and action. It honors the memory of the television show while carving a new path with awesome action scenes and some really nifty CG effects. The cast is led by a loose Liam Neeson, having a hoot as the …
With the release of Toy Story 3 this weekend, NERDSociety.com chatted with voice actor John Ratzenberger, who plays the grouchy Hamm and producer Darla K. Anderson. The concept for Toy Story 3 began in 2001 when the creative minds behind the movie had a meeting in a secret retreat. “Lee Unkrich (director), Michael Arndt (writer), John Lassetter (writer and executive producer) and I were pitching around ideas to each other. It was ten am at the time,” as Anderson remembers. With every Pixar movie, story is the key element and they soon found out the story wasn’t very interesting. Anderson said, …
In the Illusionist, Edward Norton stars as the great magician, Eisenheim in the turn of the 20th century, Vienna. Eisenheim is a man of few words and we learn it’s because he misses his childhood love, Sophie (Jessica Biehl). While he’s performing tricks, Eisenheim finds out that Sophie will be married to the prince. But not for love, but to gain more political power!! So Eisenheim does what everybody would do in his situation, try to get the girl back by using magic. …
I remember when I was young sitting in front of the TV watching the evening block of Knight Rider and The A-Team. Two action packed shows with cool stunts, great stories and that feel good ending that you can only get from a well-written and well-acted show.
The A-Team starring Liam Neeson as John “Hannibal” Smith the leader of the rag-tag bunch of commandos who “Love’s it when a plan comes together” was reminiscent of George Peppard’s character.
Tough-guy, fool pitying and “I hate flying!” B.A. Baracus (Scooter to his Mama)was played by Quinton Jackson. This MMA fighter actually started sounding …
One of my favorite Westerns of all time, Tombstone is about the story of Wyatt Earp, his brothers, and Doc Holliday, one of the most iconic character of the Western world. Wyatt and his brothers decided to move to a small town named Tombstone so they can start their own business and get filthy rich. Time goes by and the brothers are doing well, but the town is in a bad shape. A group of lawless thugs who calls themselves The Cowboys are causing problems. Wyatt Earp tried to stay away from them, but sooner or later, they cross …
I interviewed Matt Mullins a while back while he was on the television series Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight and he was gracious enough to talk to me about his awesome Mortal Kombat: Rebirth short film. Matt plays Johnny Cage in the popular short and I ask him about the making of the short film and the chances that it will become a feature-length movie.
NERDSociety (NS): The Mortal Kombat short film is an internet phenomenon. Is the short film a test reel so it can be pitched to studios ? Would you appear in the movie as Johnny Cage ?
Matt …
Per an interview with the writers of the comics at comicbookresources.com; Jonah Hex the movie might not be a true adaptation of the comics.
Justin Gray: We view the film, at least I do, as a completely different animal from the comic. While there are similarities, the focus is different. For one thing, if you think it is hard to sell a Western comic, it is even more difficult to sell a Western film. It isn’t just that the genre is less popular than it was 30 to 50 years ago, but it is also very difficult to make one …
