charlie brown DVD Review: Charlie Browns Christmas Tales

I thought this was Charlie Brown’s Christmas but what I got was 18 not so entertaining minutes of the Peanuts gang in 5 short stories.  The Christmas themed stories range from Snoopy and Lucy ice skating to Linus writing a letter to Santa.  The short stories first aired in 2002 to fill an hour slot that included the original Charlie Brown’s Christmas and it shows.  None of the stories are memorable, stories are generic and predictable.  There’s no warmth and wit to it.  Kids might enjoy it but  I reccomend watching the original show.

onibaba 2 DVD Review: Onibaba (Demon Woman)

Onibaba (1964) is a highly symbolic and progressive Japanese horror film which was way ahead of its time.  Although it is in black and white, it is easy to forget about that as the story unfolds and the viewer is drawn in.  Set in 14th century Japan, Onibaba delves into the struggle between the peasant and the samurai classes.  The peasants dominate here as two women resort to murdering wayward and injured samurai and trading their armor and swords for bags of millet in order to survive.  Based on a Buddhist story which is said to encourage women to be …

Exit Through the Gift Shop Documentary Review: Exit Through The Gift Shop

Funny, fascinating, and nearly impossible to categorize, Exit Through The Gift Shop is one of the best documentaries in years. The documentary focuses on a jovial French filmmaker named Theirry Guetta and his transformation into street artist “Mr Brainwash”. The documentary was made by a hipster street artist named Banksy. Banksy came to my attention after doing an extremely dark opening for The Simpsons involving sweatshops used to produce the very Simpsons products that have made the producers very rich. Banksy appears in the documentary, voice distorted, his face hidden in shadow, and wearing a hoodie. Many critics and audience members …

circle DVD Review: Circle

Circle is a low budget movie that combines the psychological thriller of Silence Of The Lambs and the scare of the original Halloween movie.  While the combination doesn’t work for the whole movie, it’s still a fun ride.  Circle is about a serial killer, James Bennett.  He bases his killings in hope that a Greek mythology will come to fruition.  On his tracks is the cop that already put Bennett to jail at the start of the movie, Chief.  He’s partnered up with Kathy as they try to predict Bennett’s next move.  There’s also subplot to the movie consisting of college …

The Best Movies of 2010 (So Far)

Scott Pilgrim The Best Movies of 2010 (So Far)

Here’s my list of the best movies of 2010 (so far):

Scott Pilgrim Vs The World– Here’s a movie that flew a bit under the radar. It was well-promoted but it lost money at the box office. Now people can discover it for themselves on blu ray and DVD. Hardcore fans of anime and videogames may like it most, but there’s heart and invention at work here. Call it Eternal Sunshine of The Videogame Mind.

Inception– Chris Nolan’s brainy smash won over both critics and audiences and that ending is still being debated to this day. Well-cast and directed, …

netflix2 Netflix Offers Streaming Service and Price Hike

The popular rental company, Netflix, announced today that they will be offerring a streaming ONLY service for $7.99.  The service will let you watch streaming movies on your pc, tv (with a Netflix Box) and console (PS3, WII, Xbox 360).  You can watch hi def movies with the service but that depends how fast your internet connection is.  I used to have DSL at 1.5 mbps and that gave me “standard” quality.  I swithched to cable and the speed is 10mbps, I get “X-high” to high def titles, which is the best.

Netflix is really pushing for streaming movies and tv …

Blu-Ray Review: Ichi (2008)

Blu-Ray Review: Ichi (2008)

ichi 2008 jap cielo img 218510 Blu Ray Review: Ichi (2008)

Following the tradition of the Zatoichi: Blind Swordsman series, Ichi flips the story by centering around a blind swordswoman.  Haruka Ayase plays Ichi, a very unobtrusive, wandering goze.  The goze were blind musicians who played a stringed instrument called the samisen and offered live performances in exchange for room and board.  Her sword is hidden in her walking stick and most of the brutal jerkwads she meets up with have no idea who they’re messing with. Ichi is also a very talented and unusual swordfighter.  Her biggest rival is the cartoonish yakuza Banki-to (probably the worst part of the …

Batman XXX Director Sues Downloaders

Batmanparody Batman XXX Director Sues Downloaders

Axel Braun, the writer/director of Batman XXX, A Porn Parody, has filed a copyright lawsuit in U.S. District Court of West Virginia, alleging that 7,098 online infringers either downloaded, uploaded or shared his pornographic homage to the comic series illegally. With actors’ names like James Deen and Dale DaBone, it’s kinda hard to take a film like this seriously. What director Axel Braun is taking seriously is the amount of money he’s losing out on by people accessing his movie for free after the DVD was released in May of this year.

How do they know who all these …
