Best & Worst of ’08

wanted Best & Worst of 08

2008 was a pretty good year us nerds. More comic books were turned into movies and for the most part, they were pretty good. The high def war finally ended with Blu-ray knocking out HD and consumers finally had the confidence to go Blu. Last but not least, video games are more popular than ever. Here’s our look at the best and worst of ’08.…

“Two Face Story Has Been Told” – Christopher Nolan

“Two Face Story Has Been Told” – Christopher Nolan

dark knight two face art Two Face Story Has Been Told Christopher Nolan

Attended the blu ray community screening for the Dark Knight where Christopher Nolan was answering questions from the fans. To tell you the truth, most questions could have been answered by watching the behind the scenes featurettes. Some questions had obvious answers such as:

“Why do you think Ledger’s performance as the Joker is so beloved by critics and fans alike”
and

“How was it shooting in Chicago”

I wish they didn’t filter the questions too badly. I was really wondering about the inconsistencies about the movie such as Batman always getting knocked out while being perfectly fine falling from his …

Christopher Nolan, the director of Dark Knight will have a community screening tomorrow at, 12/18/08, at 6pm, pacific time. First 100,000 people registered to the event will have access to the screening through their blu ray players. Click here to register and find out the details. This will be my first community screening but from what I understand, you can ask questions while the movie is playing and the director will answer. I’m sure it’ll be filtered out but hopefully Nolan will give hints about the third movie and some insight what went on behind the scenes. I’ll be going to …

Dark Knight DVD & Blu Ray Exclusives

Dark Knight DVD & Blu Ray Exclusives

There’s so many exclusives for Dark Knight on DVD & Blu Ray that I’m getting confused. Below is a list of the exclusives and the prices from the major retailers. Thanks to Speedy from cheapassgamer.com for the early prices. The prices are for the exclusives, not the regular DVD set.

Best Buy:
They have the most exclusives, including figures and masks and joker trading cards. The Joker figure looks pretty cool but probably not worth the $10 price tag. The masks are crap.

Iron Man Blu-ray Defective?

Iron Man Blu-ray Defective?

ironman blu ray Iron Man Blu ray Defective?

The movie just got released today on DVD and Blu-ray.  I purchased the Blu-ray format.  Popped this little baby in my PS3 when I arrived home.  Ok, I see an image of Tony Stark’s artificial heart loading on my TV.  Ok, it’s installing something, just like my Transformers Blu-ray.   Now I checked back to see it’s still loading.  I restarted it to see if would work, but no dice.  It was still loading/installing.  Why is it taking so long? Is my PS3 creating an Iron Man suit in there?

No, but I found out that the server was busy, with all …

So there it was, my Batman: Gotham Knight Blu-ray, alone on a small street in Orange County.  I stopped my car to go pick it up.  Pieces were everywhere.  I went straight for the disc to see if it was still intact.  By the luck of the gods, Batman came out in one piece.  But…the same can’t be said about the cover.  Jump for the full details and pics of the surviving pieces.…

God save the PS3!

God save the PS3!

royal queen God save the PS3!

Lately, Sony has been on a good running streak.  With the biggest news coming from the death of HD DVD (the Blu-ray camp is doing back flips), to the NPD Groups January Game Sales showing the PS3 catching up with Wii and the Xbox 360 in last place.

Later this year, the highly anticipated game Metal Gear Solid 4 will be available on the PS3 exclusively.  An MGS4 bundle will also be released that comes with the game, the 80 gig PS3 console, and a DualShock 3 (rumble finally!!).

Can the PS3 triumph over the Wii and truly be this years …

It’s Official: Blu Ray Wins the DVD Format War, HD-DVD is OUT !

Eary this morning the AP confirmed what many already knew to be the case, that Blu Ray has won the DVD format war.  Toshiba will stop producing HD-DVD players and recorders:

Toshiba quits HD DVD business

By YURI KAGEYAMA, AP

Toshiba said Tuesday it will no longer develop, make or market HD DVD players and recorders, handing a victory to rival Blu-ray disc technology in the format battle for next-generation video.

“We concluded that a swift decision would be best,” Toshiba President Atsutoshi Nishida told reporters at his company’s Tokyo offices.

The move would make Blu-ray — backed by Sony Corp., …

Paramount/Dreamworks to go HD exclusive.

Paramount/Dreamworks to go HD exclusive.

spr Paramount/Dreamworks to go HD exclusive.

The home theatre forums are buzzing today with the news that Paramount and its sister company, Dreamworks are going to be HD-DVD exclusive. Prior to this announcement, Paramount was format neutral, which meant they were releasing movies on both Blu Ray and HD.

So why is this big news? First of all, Paramount and Dreamworks have some big movies under their belt, here’s a partial list:

  • Transformers – Probably the biggest blow to Sony
  • Shrek franchise
  • Saving Private Ryan
  • Collateral
  • Braveheart
  • Titanic
  • Gladiator
  • Godfather Trilogy
  • Indiana Jones Trilogy

Transformers alone will sell players, the other titles are just bonus. I know …
