Michael Bay, the director of the craptastic Transformers 2, will be signing Blu Ray’s and DVD’s.  You can get a signed blu ray ($50) or DVD ($40) on his official site, michaelbay.com.  Although I hated Transformers 2, the sale is for a good cause.  All the  proceeds will go to Make A Wish Foundation.  You can also get a combo pack, which includes the original Transformers movie and Tyrese (“left cheek, let cheek” ) will sign the movies as well.  Here’s the link to the order page.

The movie comes out on video on October 20th.  I didn’t expect it …

Movie Review: Inglourious Basterds. Glorious indeed.

Movie Review: Inglourious Basterds. Glorious indeed.

inglourious basterds1 Movie Review: Inglourious Basterds. Glorious indeed.

I like short movie reviews, so I’ll distill this down to the most important aspects.  This movie is essentially a drama, with some good comedy, and some of the best dialogue and acting I’ve ever seen.  The opening scene has a famous Nazi, titled, “The Jew Hunter”, Colonel Hans Landa, who is played by the fantastic Christoph Waltz.  This first scene sees Landa searching a dairy farm for jews in hiding.  As the audience becomes aware that the jews might be found, the music is queued and plays perfectly with the scene, which caused body-tensing in probably every person in the …

DVD Review: Doctor Who: Planet Of The Dead!

From BBC Video comes the 60 minute Easter Special of Doctor Who entitled Planet of the Dead. After 4 seasons of the decades old series, the BBC is releasing a few single episode videos which are aired on BBC America and of course in England. These features are being shown to lead up to the reboot of the series that will feature the “regeneration” of David Tennant’s Doctor.

Starring: David Tennant the 10th Doctor and Michelle Ryan from the short-lived “Bionic Woman”; Planet of the Dead brings The Doctor and a bus full of passengers to a desert world where …

G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra. 80’s HC Fan Review.

Baroness6 G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra. 80s HC Fan Review.
After 25 years and a year and a half waiting, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra has finally hit the screens. The film had a strong start as they introduced the characters whom brought the cartoons, comic books and action figures to life. Although there were changes and other alterations from the actual characters—some of these changes were improvements on the originals.  Others were destructive.

As a fan since the beginning I’ve offered up some reviews of the current and past action figures; the animated movie and even a sealed specialty—rare Headman figure. I’m sure you, the reader is curious to …

Blu-ray Review: Coraline

Blu-ray Review: Coraline

Coraline Blu ray Cover 300x300 Blu ray Review: Coraline

Coraline is the latest animated stop-motion movie directed by Henry Selick, but somehow people always seem to think that Tim Burton is somehow attached to these types of projects. Well for one thing, his name was plastered all around Nightmare Before Christmas.

The story starts off with Coraline and her parents moving into a new home. Coraline is not happy and her parents are too busy working that they hardly notice her, leaving her to explore outside and inside the house/apartment. She meets Wybourne, a neighbor, and he gives her a doll that resembles Coraline. It’s this doll that would lead …

Top Ten: Movie Villains!

Top Ten: Movie Villains!

Throughout the years movies have portrayed many villains, some were over the top and some were under the table. The following list describes ten of the better villains which were attached to excellent films.  Make your own judgement, but you can’t deny the impact the following list makes on some great films.

10. Gordon Gekko: Michael Douglas–Wall Street. Coining the phrase “Greed….is good.” Gordon is what made up the yuppie life-style of the 80’s and was the first businessman to show his true colors. If a remake of “Wall Street” was to be made today, the phrase …

Blu-Ray Review: Seven Pounds

Blu-Ray Review: Seven Pounds

sevenpounds Blu Ray Review: Seven Pounds

Movie:

If you like to be bored and depressed, Seven Pounds is the perfect movie for you.  Will Smith and director, Gabrielle Muccino (Pursuit of Happyness) have teamed up again for another drama.  While Pursuit of Happyness was uplifting, Seven Pounds is too egotistical for its own good.

We learn in the beginning of the movie that Ben Thomas (Will Smith) is going to commit suicide.  Flashback to the days leading to the suicide and we find out that Ben Thomas is a miserable, creepy guy.  He stalks the people he wants to help and invades their privacy.  …

Netflix For The Lose?

Netflix For The Lose?

netflix2 Netflix For The Lose?

Just when I was praising Netflix last week, I got an e-mail from them telling me that my subscription is going up by $2 in late May.  They’re charging extra for Blu-ray.  This isn’t the first time they’ve done this, they started charging me an extra $1 per month in January.  So over a course of 6 months, the price will go up by $3.  By the end of May, instead of paying $14.99 ($1 Blu-ray fee included), I’ll be paying $16.99.

$3 raise in a course of 6 months is pretty damn ballsy for Netflix.  I was pissed at …

Netflix For The Win!

netflix2 Netflix For The Win!

I used to badmouth Netflix because I would only get 1 shipment of movies per week.  Then I found out that it was USPS that was lagging, not Netflix.  I read on a forum that I should drop off my movies at the post office drop box for fast processing.  I tried it out and now I get about 2 shipment of movies per week.

I was already happy with their service when I accidentally returned Killzone 2(borrowed from Gamefly) to them.  I noticed it the next day when I wondered why the movie that was returned, Body of Lies, was …

T2 – Skynet Edition For Blu Ray

T2 – Skynet Edition For Blu Ray

t2 61 274x300 T2 Skynet Edition For Blu Ray
My favorite sci-fi movie comes out again on Blu Ray on May 19th.  Unlike the first release which had a crappy transfer, this one has lossless sound and a “THX” approved video transfer.  The 1 disc will retail for $29.99.

A 6 disc set will also be released with a collector’s package and retail for $174.99.  I’m a big Terminator fan but this is just overkill.

I can’t wait to watch T2 on Blu.  The sound should be sweet.  I watched it over the weekend on DVD and it still holds up.  Bring on T4, time to Bale out!…
