So you just got a blu-ray player recently. Maybe it was a gift or you bought it with your tax return, congratulations, lets get started on my picks for building a badass collection of blu-rays. Kill Zone is a 2005 Hong Kong martial arts flick starring Donnie Yen and Sammo Hung (both are also in Ip Man 2).   The movie  is  pretty dark for an action.  Detective Chan (Simon Yam) plays a cop trying to take down mob boss, Wong Po (Sammo Hung.)    Chan is close to retiring and hot headed Ma (Yen) is groomed to be the head detective.   The filmmakers try to imitate Infernal Affairs’ mood by having a glossy cinematography and depressed characters and it works on some levels.  There’s some scenes that makes the cops look worse than the bad guys they’re …

I remember when Rush Hour first came out in theatres.  I was still in high school and I loved the movie.  It was another cop buddy movie but less violent and more family friendly than the Lethal Weapon franchise.  Instead of shooting bad guys it was Jackie Chan beating up the bad guys with his nifty kung fu.  Chris Tucker was in for the comedy.  The story has Inspector Li (Jackie Chan) coming to Los Angeles to solve a kidnapping case.  Detective James Carter (Chris Tucker) works for the LAPD and assigned to escort Li as he investigates.  Along the …

Highlander is an enduring cult classic and one of my favorite movies of all time. On blu-ray for the first time, Highlander’s video and audio quality are much improved, if not perfect. This is the best the movie has ever looked though. The video is generally sharp and much brighter than the muddled VHS and DVD copies of the past. For Highlander fans, this is as good as the moive has ever looked, and that makes this a must-buy.

We just got the box art for All Star Superman.  The movie comes out on DVD and Blu-Ray on February 22, 2011.  It’s based on Grant Morrison’s, Eisner Award-winning vision of Superman’s heroic final days on Earth.  The comic focused more on drama than action.

Scott Pilgrim Vs The World– Here’s a movie that flew a bit under the radar. It was well-promoted but it lost money at the box office. Now people can discover it for themselves on blu ray and DVD.
