Blu-Ray Review: Lord Of The Rings – Extended Edition

lotr ee Blu Ray Review: Lord Of The Rings Extended Edition

Lord Of The Rings has everything you can hope for in an epic fantasy: great battle scenes, impressive special effects, cool creatures and most importantly, awesome storytelling.  Majority of the credit goes to director Peter Jackson.  He shot the beloved J.R.R. Tolkien fantasy story for 16 months (re-shots were done afterwards for Return of the King.).  What we saw onscreen was Middle Earth with a lot of history and culture behind it.  For example, each race were diverse. The Elves were smooth and deadly with their arrows while the orcs were rough and grimey.  The Hobbits were care free and liked …

Blu-ray Review: Sucker Punch

sucker punch bluray 805x1024 Blu ray Review: Sucker Punch

Directed by Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen), Sucker Punch is about a group of girls in a mental hospital trying to escape the hole through the world of fantasy and big action sequences.

The Movie Itself:
This is somewhat hard to review, but let me break it down. The movie as a whole has a lot of weakpoints. Meaning, there are sequences and scenes that are hard to understand. I’m not sure if this is how Snyder intended it to be, or they didn’t have enough footage by mistake, or simply an editing issue. But, it’s an obvious flaw to the film, …

Blu-Ray Review: Hall Pass

Blu-Ray Review: Hall Pass

hallpass bluray small Blu Ray Review: Hall Pass

Hall Pass is the latest comedy from the Farrelly Brothers (Something About Mary) starring Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis.  The premise sounds funny, 2 bored husbands are given permission by their wives to live a single life.  That means they can do whatever they want, including sleeping with other girls, getting drunk and staying up late.  I laughed quite a bit in the movie, even though the ending felt unfinished.

The movie sounds a little bit like Hangover with guys partying and getting out of control but Hall Pass felt a little more like a drama.  In the core of the …

Lord of the Rings Extended Edition Blu ray Unboxing LOTR: EE Blu Ray & Green Tint Issue

Last Friday, I was surprised to receive my copy of Lord Of The Rings: Extended Edition Blu-Ray set.  The 15 disc set contains a new transfer for Fellowship Of The Ring (FOTR) and added at least 30 minutes of new scenes for each movie.  I thought the package looked pretty cool and one of the best I’ve seen.  I made a quick video so I can share it with fellow fans:

Early reports and screenshots for FOTR showed a green tint with the new transfer.  I watched the movie on Friday night and the green tint is there.  Think of it …

the man from nowhere blu ra Blu ray Review:The Man from Nowhere (2010)

The Man from Nowhere (Ajeossi) is a revenge flick out of South Korea that at first glance, eerily resembles The Professional but differs in many respects.  Actor Won Bin, who previously played a mentally challenged young man in the awesome movie Mother (I highly recommend seeing that as well), is a mysterious loner named Tae Sik who runs a pawn shop.  His neighbor, a little girl named So Mi, often comes by and visits him when her flaky  mom is busy doing drugs or whatever.  Tae Sik obviously has some sort of dark past that causes him to behave without a …

Blu-ray Review: Just Go With It (Adam Sandler)

Blu-ray Review: Just Go With It (Adam Sandler)

Just Go With It Cover Blu ray Review: Just Go With It (Adam Sandler)

Just Go With It (what a terrible title) is the latest from the Adam Sandler hit factory, assembled by committee and lacking a heart or pulse. Just Go With It wastes a decent cast (including Jennifer Aniston) and an OK premise as it drowns in too-few laughs and mean-spirited gags at the expense of the movie’s heavy or non-White characters. There’s a meanness to the movie and the fact that Sandler’s character is such an annoying sexist that the comedy elements are hard to enjoy, such as they are.

Just Go With It is about a doctor named Danny (played by …

Highwater Blu ray cover1 Blu ray Review: Highwater (surfing documentary)

Surf’s really up in the latest documentary from current surf documentary icon Dana Brown. The Brown family has had a long history making some of the best surfing docs ever made. Dana’s father directed The Endless Summer, the famous surfing doc that helped propel surfing in the national spotlight. Dana continues this tradition with the visually stunning, propulsive doc Highwater. A thrilling and intriguing look at the current state of the sport. It appears business is good (really good) for surfing and the doc captures thrilling footage at the mecca of surfing, the North Shore of Oahu, where the top ranked …

Blu-ray Review: Unknown

unknown bluray cover 811x1024 Blu ray Review: Unknown

Unknown is a story of a man, who gets into a car accident, wakes up from a coma only to discover that he may not be the person that he thought he was. Nobody knows who he is, including his wife of 5 years. The adventure begins.

The Movie Itself
Unknown is a good thriller, set in winterly Germany. The story is immersive that kept me wanting to know more. The acting is good, it’s almost like Liam Neeson just plays himself and everything still turns out great. Although, there are scenes that will make you chuckle or shake your head. …
