jay hieron nick diaz Interview With MMA Fighter: Jay Hieron

NERDSociety recently chatted with MMA fighter and IFL champ, Jay Hieron.  Hieron is known for his powerful strikes and bringing exciting fights.  He is currently on a 5-fight winning streak.  He was supposed to fight Nick Diaz this Saturday at Strikeforce for the championship belt but Diaz wasn’t cleared by the CSAC (California State Athletic Commission) .  Now Hieron will be fighting the always game and former TUF contestant, Jesse Taylor.

NERDSociety (NS):  Jesse Taylor is the third scheduled opponent you’ll be fighting in the past couple of weeks.  How are you dealing it?

Jay Hieron (JH): It’s a bit stressful …

StrikeForce: Carano vs. Cyborg Predictions

StrikeForce: Carano vs. Cyborg Predictions

1196 lg StrikeForce: Carano vs. Cyborg Predictions
An out-dated poster for Strikeforce – Thompson is out due to injury, will be replaced by Ishida.

Gina  Carano vs. Cris “Cyborg” – An interesting match-up between the two female muay thai fighters. This could very well be the fight of the night. I don’t think that either fighters would take this to the ground, as both fighters have strong stand-up skills. I think that Carano will win this fight, she is slightly bigger, and just as skilled as Cyborg. Carano by KO, Rd. 1

Renato “Babalu” Sobral vs. Gegard Mousasi – This fight was suppose to happen in Affliction 3, …

BJ Penn vs. Kenny Florian – Should be a technical match-up between the two light-weights. This is Penn’s first fight after losing to GSP at the heavier division. The light-weight is Penn’s ideal division, and I think that Kenflo is in trouble. Florian is a great ground fighter, but with overrated striking skills. Yes, his Muay Thai has improved, but he’s far from a KO artist. However, Penn has great boxing, with KOs under his belt via knees or punches. His ground game in unparalleled in the LW division. Overall, Penn is too strong and agile, even for Kenny. Penn by

Long Beach Fight Night 5 Recap

Below are the results:

Jacob Fishel vs. Nich Reale
The first fight was a back and forth battle.  It was a pretty even match but Fishel scored more points on takedowns and ground control.  The fight went to the judge where Fishel got the split decision.

Afterthought: UFC 100

Afterthought: UFC 100

UFC 100 Lesnar Mir Afterthought: UFC 100

Rants and raves from UFC 100……

– Yoshihiro “Sexyama” Akiyama still went out to the Boccelli song, “Say Goodbye”.  Awesome!  I’m glad Dana White agreed to the music and didn’t let him change it to a mainstream song.  Here’s a clip of his entrance in Japan with the music, EPIC!

– Even though Sexyama got the win, he didn’t look too impressive.  Maybe he needs to drop down to 170, he looked really small at 185.  His opponent, Belcher was stupid for not throwing more leg kicks in the third round.

– Dan “Hollywood” Henderson literally shut Michael “The Count” Bisping …

Here are my thoughts from UFC 99:

– I didn’t really know Dan Hardy before his fight against Marcus Davis.  They were talking smack before the fight and Dan Hardy won a split decision.  Now that I’ve seen his antics, I don’t like him.  He talks too much trash.  I’m glad Davis didn’t shake his hand after the fight.  That’s real bad blood.

–  CroCop was back in the UFC after being cut for losing to mediocre fighters.  He won but still didn’t look impressive.  Cro Cop looked really slow and sluggish.  There’s no way he’ll be a champ …

ufc99 comeback UFC 99: (The Comeback) Predictions

Come this Saturday, the UFC is having another event. The card does not look that great but has fights that I’m looking forward to.

Rich Franklin vs. Wanderlei Silva – Two former title holders will face each other in this catchweight match at 195. Silva has always fought at 205, while Franklin mainly fought at 185. With that said, Franklin is the bigger man which can be a factor in this fight, especially on the ground.

Prediction: Silva will get taken down and lose via JD, which would suck because I want him to win. But, if Franklin decides to

jose MLB Star, Jose Canseco Fights MMA In Japan

Unlike MMA in the U.S. where fights are sanctioned (weight divisions, roid tests), Japan lets MMA organizations run it by themselves.  That means, roid tests aren’t required and a 180 lb guy can fight a 350 lb fighter.  Pretty much, anything goes.  Some fighters don’t even know who they’re fighting until the day before the event.

Dreams 9 happened last night and this was a crazy freakshow.  They’re starting a tournament called “Super Hulk”, where they pitted smaller fighters against the bigger ones.  Here are the highlights:

Jose Canseco vs. Hong Man Choi – That’s right, the baseball player who wrote …

Rashad Evans vs. Lyoto Machida (Title Match) – The main event of the evening. I’m not sure how to call this fight, as both fighters are very unorthodox with their styles. Machida is known for his “elusiveness,” which means that most fighters cannot touch him on their feet. His judo takedowns are very effective, even against wrestlers such as Tito Ortiz. Evans, on the other hand, is known for getting beat up early in the rounds, but always recovers towards the end. He KOd Liddell in the 2nd round, and TKOd Griffin on the 3rd. I think that Machida will win …
