A sweet armbar, but why is Fedor sleeping?

The first shot of EA’s new MMA game, is of Fedor Emelianenko (the #1 HW in the world) victimizing somebody’s arm. This shot looks pre-rendered, the final game will look less impressive. But, if EA really want to impress the MMA fans, they need to worry more about the gameplay, rather than the graphics. The UFC game was pretty deep, but not deep enough to keep me entertained for a long time. Fedor Emelianenko vs. Brett Rogers – Fedor, the #1 ranked HW in the world, will face the undefeated Rogers. Rogers is a threat to Fedor due to his size and speed. Most of his fights ended fast, so it’s hard to tell what other skillsets he might carry. For instance, his cardio is suspect, as well as his ground game. But, we know that his punches are crisp, and fast, so Fedor better not take him lightly because he can get KOd. Here we go again, the next UFC is coming this Saturday, and it will be held at the Staples Center in L.A. The overall card looks mediocre, but the Main Event is something to look forward to.

Lyoto Machida vs. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua – This will be a great fight because Shogun is a very aggressive fighter. Long Beach Fight Night 6 had a little bit of everything: stand up, grappling and submissions.  The energy was high once again at the Long Beach City College Gymnasium as fan favorites Manny “Bam Bam” Lara, Darrel “Mongoose” Montague and Thomas Kenney were on the card.  There were a total of 8 fights and the majority ended in a ko or submission.

Rich Franklin vs. Vitor Belfort – this should be an even match-up between the 2 well-rounded veterans. Belfort was picked up by the UFC after Affliction went down. Belfort is a great striker, but is unwilling to push the pace once the fight turns against him. On the other hand, Franklin is a tenacious fighter that will push till the end. Losing or not, Franklin is a versatile fighter that just won’t quit. Nate Diaz vs. Melvin Guillard – Guillard is a wild fighter, he is quick on his feet, and a decent wrestler. But, his submission game is suspect. Diaz, however, is known for his submission holds. He defeated most fighters in the TUF show by submission. This is a comeback fight for Guillard, but he won’t be partying after the fight.

For a movie titled Fighting, you’d at least expect some good fight scenes, but Fighting fails on even that basic level. The movie has actor Channing Tatum (GI Joe: Rise of Cobra) and Terrence Howard (who barely tries at all in the movie) as a street fighter and his manager respectively. There’s also a dull but pretty love interest and some villains who wouldn’t pass muster on a Saturday morning cartoon series. The real shame of the movie though is that the fight scenes are so poorly edited and choppy, viewers can barely tell what is happening while they are going …

Randy Couture vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira – A great match-up between the sport’s two legends. Both are very well-versed on the ground with Couture being the better wrestler, and Nogueira being the better submission artist. I don’t think that both fighters will go for the takedowns early on. Couture saw what Mir did to Nogueira on their feet, so I think that Couture will try to stand and go for the KO. Somehow, I see this fight hitting the ground, where Nogueira’s submission game will come into play. Randy will make a mistake, and Noguiera will submit him via Triangle Choke. …
