Fashionably late to the fanged mania which has gripped the country, Warner Bros. has announced that they are going ahead with a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot.  But the kicker is that Joss Whedon (Buffy writer and brain behind the 1992 film and subsequent hit TV series) will not be involved.  Here is an excerpt from Whedon’s reaction according to E! The director of Top Gun, Tony Scott, has agreed to helm the sequel.  I might be wrong on this but I think this is the first time Scott is doing a sequel.  His previous projects such as Spy Game, Crimson Tide and Deja Vu have all been stand alone flicks.  Scott will team up again with producer Jerry Bruckheimer (The Rock, Prince Of Persia) and Tom Cruise.  Cruise will have a small role in the sequel, he’ll be more of a mentor than the ace pilot.  No word yet who’ll play lead.

The Alien Anthology is being released today and 20th Century Fox released the footage of Sigourney Weaver’s screen test.  As we all know, Weaver’s performance as Ripley broke new grounds in Hollywood.  Ripley was one of the first female characters to kick ass and this trend continued to horror movies such as Friday The 13th and Scream.

Everytime I hear Michael Mann’s name, I get excited. That’s because I’m a big fan of Last of the Mohicans and Heat. This time around, his next project could be a Period epic set in the world of Henry V. Or, he could go a different route and do another crime drama (Big Tuna) set in Chicago.
