When people think of Las Vegas today, images of slot machines, showgirls or club pools brimming with scantily clad fist-pumpers most likely come to mind. Over Labor Day weekend, Vegas came to be known for something else. Just off the strip and across from the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, in a lesser known resort called Alexis Park, Anime Vegas 7 happened.

Pasadena, CA – Power Morphicon has come and gone, it was a mid-size event with a very good turnout. There were cosplayers, action figures, and Power Rangers from different generations signing autographs for the excited fans. I’m glad to say that Power Rangers is still kickin today, I remembered watching the shows afters school when it first came out. Of course, tons of Power Rangers have come and gone, but nothing stuck in people’s minds like Tommy, the Green Ranger. He was there and got the longest line for autographs. The heroes who stand around Chinese Mann’s Theatre in Hollywood Blvd waiting for photo ops, filed a lawsuit against Los Angeles.  The lawsuit claims that the super heroes are being unfairly targeted by the cops.  The city is arguing that they consider the masked men and women as aggressive panhandlers that causes tense situation for the tourists.  I see these cosplayers everytime I go to the Kodak Theatre and they do ask for money for every photo op.  While most of them are cool, some are sneaky and ask for money after the picture is taken.  There are other street …

This year’s Anime Vegas convention will be held at the Alexis Park Resort in Las Vegas. Special guests include voice-over artists from anime such as Fullmetal Alchemist, Dragonball Z, Ghost in the Shell, Naruto, Bleach and Kamen Rider. Today, we have Yosef as our featured cosplayer.  Yasef caught my attention as he dressed up as one of my favorite games character, Ghost from Modern Warfare 2.  Little did I know he also dressed up as Wolverine.  Below is our cosplay talk.

From the Good Smile Company comes a Vocaloid spin-off called Black Rock Shooter. The character was created from a song produced from the Yamaha Vocaloid 2 program Hatsune Miku.

For those unfamilar with what the Vocaloid program is: it’s a computer program that sings songs from the words the user types. Hatsune Miku is an Anime themed voice–there are of course more professional sounding voices in other programs such as in Vocaloid 1.

Ever since Phantom Menace came out, midnight screenings has been a common practice at big multiplexes for high profile movies. Last one I went to was for The Dark Knight and there were at least 1000 people in line, yes I know, I’m lagging on my midnight screenings. Dark Knight was shown in 7 sold out theatres. I enjoy midnight screenings because of the energy from the fans and you have some people dressed up as their favorite characters.
