Film Review: Iron Man (Take Two)

Iron Man is getting amazing reviews and is well on its way to being a huge hit.  I enjoyed the film but I do think its a tad overrated by the basement dwellers.  Robert Downey Jr is terrific though.  He’s the major reason to see the film.  As the flamboyant Tony Stark, he somehow makes a “merchant of death” who discards women like empty boxes of tissues, a likable cad.  He makes Stark’s improbable turn from playboy billionaire to superhero seem much more natural than a lesser actor would.  He’s surrounded by some good supporting actors, I especially liked his …

Even though there are several problems with the movie, Iron Man starts the summer movie season on a good note. The movie begins with the likable but somewhat alcoholic Tony Stark(Robert Downey Jr) in a military convoy. We find out not only is he a celebrity but he’s also witty.  The convoy gets attacked and all hell breaks loose. The rebels kidnap Stark and tells him to build one of his latest invention, a missile called Jericho. But as we all know he builds a metal armor and Iron Man is created.

Director, Jon Favreau (Elf, Zathura) gives Tony Stark a …

Batman & Son – Action Figure Review

Batman & Son – Action Figure Review

group Batman & Son Action Figure Review

The latest Batman line from DC is based on “Batman & Son”, written by Grant Morrison & art by Andy Kubert. The story tells the tale of Batman’s relationship with his new discovered son, Damian. Problem is, Damian’s grandfather is Rha’s Al Ghul and has been trained by the league of assasins to kill all criminals. The story isn’t really serious, but a very entertaining one. Highlights include Robin and Damian’s first encounter, Batman getting pounded by a character that resembles Bane and the future of Damian.

The set comes with 5 figures but you will be only spending on …

Spartans at Dragon*Con

Spartans at Dragon*Con

Here’s an article about Dragon*Con on USA Today.

USA Today Article

I’m so choked up right now, sniff sniff.  I’m proud to see my other Spartan brothers and sister representing in the East Coast.  Draon*Con takes place in Atlanta, Georgia, and is the biggest convention for anything nerd related.  From comics to games to movies.

Yeah, I wish I had a chance to go.  I would say it’s the biggest Spartan cosplay gathering ever.  And a good one at that since everybody’s outfit is high quality and everyone worked out hard to show off their Spartan abs.  We will …

New Dark Knight Vehicle: Bat-Pod

New Dark Knight Vehicle: Bat-Pod

Why stop with the Batman comic review, I was surfing the net and found this Today show footage of the newest Batman vehicle: Bat-Pod. I already saw stills of this vehicle a couple of months ago and my opinion still hasn’t changed. This vehicle doesn’t seem practical in a realistic Batman movie. Add to the fact, he’ll look ridiculous riding it. But with dark lighting and angles, I’m sure he won’t look as awkard as Meredith Viera. The bad guys could just bump the “bike” and Batman would be out of business. But what do I know, Chris Nolan has already …

Batman #666 Review – Devil in Gotham City?

Batman #666 Review – Devil in Gotham City?

batman666 Batman #666 Review Devil in Gotham City?

This stand alone issue deals with Damian, Bruce Wayne’s son, taking over his dad’s mantel. Since Damian’s mother is Talia Al Ghul, Rha Al Ghul’s daughter, he is trained by the league of assasins to show no pity to the criminals. His violent actions are not welcomed by the new Gotham Police but that is only of the problems he encounters.

I won’t spoil anything else since it’s such a fun and interesting read. The new Batman is confused whether to follow his dad’s footsteps, or Rha’s Al Ghul’s. Even though it’s only a stand alone issue, Grant Morrison’s vision of …

” We Spartans have descended from Hercules himself. Taught never to retreat, never to surrender. Taught that death in the battlefield is the greatest glory he could achieve in his life. Spartans: the finest soldiers the world has ever known. ”

— King Leonidas

300 is the highly anticipated, bloody (and faithful, I’m told) adaption of Frank Miller’s graphic novel, directed by Zach Snyder, the kid who directed the remake of Dawn of the Dead with tons of energy and style.  He’s the right director for the job.

“300” concerns the 480 B.C. Battle of Thermopylae, where the King of Sparta …

Comic Con 2007 – A Spartan’s Tale

Comic Con 2007 – A Spartan’s Tale

Oh wow, just got back from Comic Con 2007 and boy am I tired.  I finally got my new sandals and decided to test it out.  Walking around in that thing is painful, the material wa rubbing against my skin and peeling it off.  Right now my foot is really sore and not pretty to look at.  Other than that, Comic Con was great.

The girls reactions to my outfit never gets old.  It’s like I want to cosplay as other characters, but girls seems to like this, so I’ll be wearing this for a while.  A really funny moment to …

The Dark Knight Teaser Trailer

batmannewsuit The Dark Knight Teaser Trailer

This coming Friday, “The Simpsons: The Movie” will be out and select prints will contain the teaser trailer for the next Batman movie called “The Dark Knight.”  Check out it out here.

::Edit::  Awww shit, Warner Bros. removed it.  All I’ll say is that the Batman Begins logo appears and starts to deteriorate.  You can hear the Joker talking and in the end hear his maniacal laugh.  That doesn’t sound like the Heath Ledger I know.  I mean that in a good way.

Since the link isn’t available, here’s a link to Batman and Joker doing what they do best……Surf!!!!!!!

fantastic1 Film Review: Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer

Silver….it’s the new black

The sequel to the Fantastic Four featuring the Silver Surfer was out earlier in the summer and I meant to review it back then.  It’s a mildly entertaining, passable summer entertainment.  I enjoyed it for what it was; a big, dumb and loud spectacle.  It’s better than the first film, but then again, so is an enema.  The cast is lead by charisma-free non-actor Ioan Gruffudd.  I understand he’s quite good in the period film Amazing Grace, but I’m not here to review that film.  Jessica Alba looks good but can’t act, and Chris Evans is having …
