This is the perfect time to review a spoof of superhero movies.  We are in the midst of the biggest summer ever for comic book movies.  To my surprise, Superhero Movie was extremely funny, well-paced, and one of the better comedies I’ve seen in a long time.  It has more laughs than Harold and Kumar 2 and a very short running time of under 90 minutes.  Like the best spoof movies (Naked Gun, Airplane, Hot Shots) it flies along then gets out before overstaying its welcome.  The gags come fast and furious and the cast is game.  It’s full of hip …

Movie Review – Hellboy 2: The Golden Army

Movie Review – Hellboy 2: The Golden Army

hellboy2firstpic Movie Review Hellboy 2: The Golden Army

Even though I enjoy his movies, Guillermo Del Toro, the director of Hellboy 2, is overrated. Del Toro gets a pass from critics and fans alike because of his much beloved spanish movies: The Devil’s Backbone (my favorite Del Toro Flick), Chronos and the overhyped Pan’s Labyrinth (seemed too cartoony to be taken seriously).

Hellboy 2 actually starts in a good note with a flashback scene and a unique explanation of the Golden Army, an army of machines built to serve a king. The king sees so much destruction from his Golden Army that he makes a pact with his enemies, …

Fanboy Obsession of the Week: The Dark Knight

Fanboy Obsession of the Week: The Dark Knight

The time has almost come friends and the anticipation is reaching a fever pitch. I can feel the intensity as the Emo fanboys salivate. The Dark Knight has overtaken Indiana Jones (a film many people saw but no one cares about or remembers) as the must see movie experience of the year. Heath Ledger’s death has contributed to an almost insane amount of hype, publicity, and genuine excitement and interest in the film.

Early reviews report that the film is spectacular, more a crime epic like Heat than just another comic book film. The film has a lot going for it …

Batman: Gotham Knight is a collection of six short animated films from some celebrated anime studios and terrific comic book writers.  It’s similar to The Animatrix DVD that came out years back and features six short films.  The shorts are uneven at times and not every short is an instant classic, but I liked a great deal of it.  The version for review is the 2 Disc Special edition, which is the only choice for fans of Batman, as the one disc edition has only a commentary and sneak peak of the new Wonder Woman origin animated film (which looks excellent, …

1000034095 Review: Wanted

Yes, I finally got a chance to see this movie after my Vegas trip (which I can’t tell you since the shit will stay in Vegas).  Right from the beginning I knew that I was going to dig this movie.

It starts off with a business-type man searching for something.  He gets setup, but turns out he’s got enhance powers and jumps from inside the building and crashes into the window to the outside building all the way to the other building across the block.  He kills a couple of snipers while still in the air.  Everything was just so …

Wanted film poster Movie Review: Wanted

Having seen the trailer a couple of months back, I thought it was going to be awful. The cheesy action scenes, the bad one liners, predictable story.  It seemed like it was trying too hard to be cool. A week before the movie came out, I was hearing good buzz about it. Then I learned, Timur Bekmambetov directed the movie. Bekmambetov is known for making the Russian cult films, Nightwatch and Daywatch (The third and final installment, Twilight Watch will be released next year.). His movies didn’t appeal to me but right away I gave Wanted the benefit of the doubt …

Film Review: The Incredible HULK

This has been a very good summer for comic book films, they have been very high quality, exciting and entertaining so far. The best is yet to come I’m sure when The Dark Knight opens in July. My only major complaint so far is that there have been a lack of compelling villains in both Iron Man and now in The Incredible HULK, a problem that I’m sure Heath Ledger will remedy in The Dark Knight.…

With movies like Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk alright out in theatres, one can see that Marvel is planning something big. Since Marvel’s able to produce their own movies now, they can reap the benefits from their own characters.  Except for X-Men or Spider-Man, where Sony and Fox got the rights for that.  Those bastards!

So now Marvel has Thor, Captain America and some other B-List Characters to turn into movies.  If you’re keeping up with this, you’d know that they are trying to introduce all these characters to then create the ultimate movie with all these characters teamed up …
