X-Men: First Class lives up to its title and is first rate in every way. A massive improvement over X3 and the Wolverine solo movie, First Class is a big step back in the right direction. Helmed by smart British director Matthew Vaughn, First Class earns all passing grades. Vaughn directed Layer Cake (a low-budget British crime flick) but really impressed me with Stardust, the underrated fantasy classic. Starting in September, DC will reboot 52 titles and start at #1 again.
When I first heard the news from my friend, I was confused. Many questions came to my mind: Are they losing creativity, will all of the previous stories matter, will Bruce Wayne’s parents die (just joking on the last one).
DC’s reasoning behind the move is to introduce new readers to the universe. I guess it’s hard to get into the stories if you don’t know their backstories..or you can just check out wikipedia and problem solved!

Maybe the costume is like a bad omen. Things are just not looking good for guys trying to emulate the Batman. My first impression was “bad ass!” but thinking more about it, I hope he won’t look too goofy wearing the mask. I must have more faith in Christopher Nolan, he made the Tumbler and Bat Pod look cool. Bane looks menacing just like in the comics, unlike this crappy ass version from Batman & Robin:

After all the hype, the casting news, the controversy over the costume, the costume change, the Wonder Woman TV show is not going to happen… at least not right now. Thor is the epic, expensive first blockbuster of the summer from Marvel Studios based on the popular comic book series. Thor is an engaging mix of campy laughs and cool, gaudy action sequences. The movie is well-paced, directed and acted with the real surprise being that the lead is quite good. Thor is played by the charismatic and juiced Chris Hemsworth with a goofy grin and a wide-eyed thirst for war and the movie is directed by none other than Kenneth Branagh, who knows better than to take all of this seriously.
