New Cobra Commander In Town

New Cobra Commander In Town

The original Cobra Commander got killed several months ago in IDW’s G.I. Joe comic.  After that, there was a struggle for a new leader.  In G.I. Joe #8, which is released today, the new Cobra Commander is revealed.  I’m not going to spoil it but if you google it, it’s pretty easy to find the new Commander.

Below is the press release:

“IDW Publishing’s COBRA CIVIL WAR end today when the new COBRA COMMANDER is crowned in G.I. JOE: #8, and the stunning aftermath will infect all three intertwined G.I. JOE series—G.I. JOE, COBRA, and SNAKE EYES. This December and …

Cool Mondo Prints

Cool Mondo Prints

Remember Alamo Drafthouse, the movie theatre that made a PSA about a rude customer?  Not only do they make, awesome PSA’s, they also make posters that are pretty expensive on the secondary market.  They usually made less than 500 of each design and sells out in seconds.  I’ve tried a couple of times ordering but I’ve never had luck.  Last week, their boutique shop, revealed they’re working with DC Comics and released this awesome Fortress of Solitude poster on Black Friday:

Artist Parody of Avengers Promo

Artist Parody of Avengers Promo

This parody was created by artist Ken Bolk.  I found it on Bleeding Cool under the heading “What if the male Avengers posed like the female one?”  I hadn’t really noticed that Scar Jo aka Black Widow was always posing like that.  But then there’s always been that sort of gender bias in comics and comic films in general. Still looking forward to seeing it in May, though …

Alex Ross Mega Book Out Tomorrow

Alex Ross Mega Book Out Tomorrow

alex ross Alex Ross Mega Book Out Tomorrow

Alex Ross is known in the comic industry for his realistic artwork and epic storytelling (Kingdom Come, Marvel).  He has also worked in Hollywood as a conceptual artist (Unbreakable..they should make a sequel to that).  Starting tomorrow, Dynamite Entertainment will release a 328 page book containing Ross’ artwork, designs and layout with a retail price of $40 titled “The Dynamic Art Of Alex Ross.”

For me, I like Ross’ version of Superman the best.  He’s someone you can relate to.  Batman looks a bit weird though because it’s too realistic and it’s funny seeing a grown man with a mask and …

Highlights of Anime Vegas 8 – Part 1

anime Highlights of Anime Vegas 8 Part 1

There was a great turnout this past weekend at Anime Vegas.  Moving the event to November was definitely a good idea since the weather is so much more bearable this time of year.  There was so much to see and do there over the weekend.  The costumes were amazing as always.  Cosplayers at this gathering keep outdoing themselves.  I love seeing all the work that goes into these outfits.    The vibe at this con is always friendly and relaxed.

Check back for part 2 for more specifics about the event.  Here are pics of some of the costumes:

Suicide Girls Comic Available Now

Suicide Girls Comic Available Now

suicidegirls Suicide Girls Comic Available Now

Never heard anything about this but our friends at Suicide Girls has teamed up with IDW and made their own comic.  I haven’t seen Suicide Girls at recent con events and was wondering what they were up to.  I guess this is the answer, a comic written co-written by Steve Niles (30 Days Of Night).

Below is the press release:

“IDW Publishing and the SuicideGirls are excited to announce that SUICIDEGIRLS, Vol. 1 is now available in stores. This 120-page graphic novel is caught in a near-future defined by its rigid conformity and persecution of women. The SuicideGirls are the last …

If I was a kid, this would be my favorite show.  The animation is crisp, clear and imaginative.  The storylines are age-appropriate with plot structures that aren’t too sophisticated but interesting enough for the average kid/pre-teen. I could easily see how a teen/adult might find this a sort of guilty pleasure. Its viewer rating of 8.8 on IMDB hints that this might be the case.

This animated series first aired as a micro-series of 20 episodes in late 2010.  Season 1 with 26 episodes started airing in the US in June of 2011.  It was picked up for a second season, …

On Saturday, I checked out Long Beach Comic Con to mingle with the artists, check out the cosplayers and of course, to  find great bargains on comics and collectibles.  I knew that superstar artist, David Finch (Batman) had his own table at the con but I was playing it by ear whether I was going to get a quick sketch for him.  Last time he appeared at Wonder Con (comic convention in San Francisco), the line was really long and people were running to his table.  Much to my surprise, …

Long Beach Comic Con 2011 Was A Blast

Long Beach Comic Con 2011 Was A Blast

Over the weekend, nerds and zombies gathered for the 4th Long Beach Comic Con.  I love this con because you can talk to your favorite artists without waiting in long ass lines like San Diego’s Comic Con.  The artists alley had well known names such as David Finch, Darwyn Cooke and Dustin Nguyen.  The prices were more than reasonable for sketches from these great artists.  Finch was giving big discounts left and right, especially to his hardcore fans.

Comics were also at a bargain and were sold as low as $1 for famous Batman issues.  I enjoyed the show and …
