Over the past few days, DC has confirmed that 0 issues will be released this september for the one year anniversary of the New 52.  The point of these 0 issues is to explain the new back story of each of the character/team.  It is being used as a way to begin 4 new ongoing series, obviously 4 titles have to be cancelled for this accomplished.

The 4 books that are confirmed to end with their 12th issues are: Justice League International, Resurrection Man, Vodoo and Captain Atom. While I haven’t been reading any of these series, most of them have …

The cover shows Batman hanging upside down, behind him is Gotham city. Heavy emphasis is placed on the 1930s fantasy style architecture of the buildings, as the story revolves around the reconstruction of Gotham city in that era. The idea behind the visuals and the mood of the novel comes from writer, Chip Kidd. Kidd wants the book to feel like a …

Ace Is A Standout Amongst Comic Shops

Ace Is A Standout Amongst Comic Shops

Comic shops are a dying breed but in a low key Lawndale strip mall, Ace of Comics is still going strong.  I noticed the shop a couple of months ago as I passed by and saw a Superman logo outside.  I go in excited to the small shop but not expecting much because I didn’t want to be disappointed.  First thing I noticed were Batman figures that I’ve been looking for.  The toys were priced lower than I expected so I buy a whole set of DC Direct’s Arkham Asylum series 1.  I start a conversation with the easy going and …

Comic Con Badge Policy Change – Randomly Check ID

Comic Con Badge Policy Change – Randomly Check ID

5705262911 1c921dcb50 Comic Con Badge Policy Change Randomly Check ID

I just got an e-mail today from Comic Con that there badge policy will change.  They’ll be scanning badges randomly at the convention and checking the names to make sure they match.  Yes, that means they’ll be checking the attendee’s ID.  I think it’s a bit much, especially the ID part.  It will ruin the mood of the attendees with random checks as they concentrate on wasting…I mean investing their money at exhibit hall.

Below is the e-mail:

“Comic-Con International may perform any of the following validation of badges on entry to any area of the convention. These measures are an …

DC Iconic Character To Be Gay In June

DC Iconic Character To Be Gay In June

freecomicoriginal DC Iconic Character To Be Gay In June

DC co-publisher Dan Didio revealed in an interview that an iconic character will be introduced as gay from the new 52 line.  I thought at first it would be Wonder Woman but Courtney Simmos, DC entertainment’s senior vice president of publicity, cleared it up by saying it’ll be a dude.

Batman writer, Scott Snyder said on a tweet that Bruce Wayne won’t be the gay guy.

It also won’t be Aquaman because this character will make his first appearance in June for the one of the new 52 titles.

With the way DC works, it can be pretty much anybody because …

Hellboy 665x1024 Arts of Hellboys Duncan Fegredo

Here are some of Duncan Fegredo’s drawings pulled from his twitter account. Fegredo is known for his work on Mike Mignola’s Hellboy series. The Hellboy references on the pieces below are evident. The most recognized being the drawing style, and the brooding expressions of the characters. Let’s not forget Fegredo’s amazing ink-washing technique, it elevates the somber mood of his work.

Here, all four popular Monsters conveys sadness and/or loneliness. A different way of looking at the creatures.fegredo art 01 715x1024 Arts of Hellboys Duncan Fegredo

Fabok’s Variant Cover For Detective Comics

Fabok’s Variant Cover For Detective Comics

jason batman01 722x1024 Faboks Variant Cover For Detective Comics

Jason Fabok blogged about his latest variant cover for Detective Comics #9. Here, we have Batman inside the Big House. The scene shows Batman warding off inmates, and his new rivals, The Court Of Owls.

The Owls are very similar to Ninjas. As depicted by Fabok, in the cover, through their acrobatic skills, their costumes, and their swords. The Owls are untamed, they go wherever they please, and worse of all, they are resilient. Here, Batman is overwhelmed, his facial expression says it all. When will they stop? But, there is no quitting in Batman, his posture is still strong as …

Video: Inking of Batman Court of Owls

Video: Inking of Batman Court of Owls

Jonathan Glapion inks one of the story’s (Batman: Court of Owls) most memorable art. An owl swoops in and crushes the Bat. A symbol of Batman’s weakness against the Court of Owls. The art sums the whole concept of the story, not just from Batman’s perspective, but also from the previous generations of Waynes.

Glapion’s inking of Greg Capullo’s art is impressive. The inkers don’t get as much credit as the main artists do. Many readers, including myself, got the wrong idea that all they do is trace. I was wrong. As Glapion demonstrates, there’s still much artistic decisions to be …
