Tugg.com is  a site where you can vote for movies to be shown at participating theaters in your town.  Enough votes came in for Battle Royal to be shown in Houston and now the film is being screened at the Alamo Drafthouse there on Feb. 16. Tickets cost $85! Why so much? Anime Vegas 2012 was held at the Cashman convention center over this past weekend. The facilities were beautiful and provided a great venue for the event. Over 60 years ago, manga master Osamu Tezuka (Astro Boy, Kimba the White Lion), only into his late teens, gave a 19-page unpublished manga to a friend from middle-school. It was only this past April that the manga surfaced in a used book store in Tokyo.

Tezuka Productions confirmed that the work was done by the late master (who passed away in 1989) then purchased the unpublished work for the equivalent of $37,000 US dollars. A few days ago, Jeffrey Errico posted some storyboards he did for the opening scenes of Warner’s live-action Akira. Now artist Chris Weston has posted pics of storyboards that he created for the film on his website. These show Tetsuo and some night scenes in “Neo-Manhattan.”

Weston had this to say about his work on the film: “Here’s some of the storyboards I drew for Albert Hughes’ live-action adaptation of Katsuhiro Otomo’s classic graphic novel,”Akira”. We might not get to see the American live-action adaptation of Akira any time soon but artist Jeffrey Errico, who worked on the opening storyboards for the now shelved project, has given us a little something to remember it by. Although the project had a director and two lead actors (Garrett Hedlund and Kristen Stewart), budgeting issues caused it to be shut down.
