Houston Votes For Screening of Battle Royal

Tugg.com is  a site where you can vote for movies to be shown at participating theaters in your town.  Enough votes came in for Battle Royal to be shown in Houston and now the film is being screened at the Alamo Drafthouse there on Feb. 16. Tickets cost $85! Why so much? Because each ticket comes with a signed limited 1/225 variant movie poster created by Scott Pilgrim‘s Brian Lee O’malley and someone named Kevin Tong, who’s a member of Alamo Drafthouse’s collectible art division. Over 60 years ago, manga master Osamu Tezuka (Astro Boy, Kimba the White Lion), only into his late teens, gave a 19-page unpublished manga to a friend from middle-school. It was only this past April that the manga surfaced in a used book store in Tokyo.

Tezuka Productions confirmed that the work was done by the late master (who passed away in 1989) then purchased the unpublished work for the equivalent of $37,000 US dollars. A few days ago, Jeffrey Errico posted some storyboards he did for the opening scenes of Warner’s live-action Akira. Now artist Chris Weston has posted pics of storyboards that he created for the film on his website. These show Tetsuo and some night scenes in “Neo-Manhattan.”
